  1. Good on Al Jazeera for choosing Macs.

For the folks who have a less than positive view of Al Jazeera, have you actually watched the channel?

I can hardly imagine someone like Riz Khan could leave the bastion of balance reporting that is CNN to become an Islamic ideologue on Al Jazeera. And has Sir David Frost (please not Sir) gone out of his way to throw away his reputation to become a propagandist?

Having seen Fox, CNN and most of the networks in the States and I can understand why the lot of you think like you do!

  2. Alrighty then, settle down… do I have everybody’s attention? This’ll only take half a minute…

Hey! Oi! YOU LOT UP THE BACK THERE, STOP TALKING FOR A SEC, AND EYES THIS WAY PLEASE!

We’re all comfortable now? Good, now let’s begin.

You’ll each find that you have a small knife in your right hand. I’d like you to hold out your left hand, palm open, and make a small cut in the middle of the palm with the knife. Not too big; something you could put a bandaid over, nothing that needs surgery. Just like I’m doing.

You should all be bleeding red. If you are, congratulations, you’re human underneath your skin, whatever colour that is, and whatever you believe in. Anybody NOT bleeding red – get off our planet and leave us to our own wars. We’ll talk to you when we feel like it.

  3. No TowerTone,

I live in a very rich, successful democracy, it’s called Australia and we don’t receive, nor would we want or need any handouts with strings attached from the US. I don’t hate the U.S. or its “success” – we don’t envy you in any way. At least I live in a country where Electoral Commissions are independent of goverment. I know you can’t say the same.

Where were those Middle Eastern countries when Afghanistan needed help? Well, lets see – if we exclude the ones that were in a complete mess, and the ones with Western installed and supported dictatorships and the ones which were too poor to offer any meaningful help anyway, we’re probably left, with, well, virtually none I guess. That’s where they were.

That’s exactly the point I’m making – it’s because of western governments (see – plural) that these countries remain either poor or a complete fucking mess in some way, shape or form. And as soon as they do try to help one of their neighbours, they’re branded terrorists and if they don’t, they’re branded selfish and cowards.

All the countries I named where the West (mostly the US) has installed dictatorships, corrupt regimes, or crushed democracy/freedom movements, the information and evidence is readily available, quite often in the declassified documents of the US and other Western nations, as well as reports from the U.N., Amnesty International, The Red Cross, Human Rights Watch, MSF, respected journalists and journalistic bodies – an extensive list of reputable organisations. So it’s not some left wing conspiracy against the US (or other western governments).

I don’t want the US to withdraw from the world (fat chance of that happening anyway), but for God sake, put a bit of thought in before you go bumbling around the globe with your weapons of mass destruction. The world told you not to go into Iraq, that you’d make a complete botch of it, but no, you wouldn’t listen to your peers. And you’ve proved us right. Again.

Oh, and for the record, military aid does not count as aid and especially humanitarian aid, so when you subtract that from the total, the true aid provided by the US, the richest nation on planet Earth, is really quite pathetic.

Your blather hasn’t altered my option, rather reinforced it – your a bunch of selfish, ignorant, insular twits.

  4. Big deal, the publishers for both the axis of evil and the axis of AENUS (Australia, England ‘n United States) both use Macs for information and/or propaganda. Macs have been a leader of the publishing industry for a long time now. Move on.

  5. Stuart…nice post. Not everybody in the US buys into the “America can do wrong” junk. There are many who see thru the flag waving stupidity. Some people see things for what they are…just like everywhere else, good and bad.

Bush lied. It’s now a huge mess. Thousands dead for no reason what so ever. Nice job Bush.

  6. TowerTone,

I’ll admit when I saw this thread I was looking forward to reading your posts. I was a little surprised that this time it was personal right from the beginning for you. Usually you have some talking points before it degenerates to the slinging of insults. The “niggardly” trap was amusing though.

And it *still* cracks me up that you call Rush Limbaugh “enlightened”. That shit is FUNNY!

Not much else to say, because you haven’t presented any opinion on this thread.

My opinion is that Al Jazeera is a news channel, and all news channels are biased to some degree. More than that, they follow the money – which leads to sensationalism and looking for shit that gets a reaction from people. I very highly doubt that they are “in bed” with terrorists in any way, but I will bet that every time they broadcast a tape from them their ratings go sky high.

Oh and by the way, let’s hope they are liberal, because the terrorists are hard core conservatives.

I am glad, though, that they are using Macs. And yes, it is a testament to how smart they are.

    Stuart,

Not that it has any relevance to the Iraq mess, but maybe we should have also listened to our peers and stayed out of WWII and let the Japanese push south to Australia. Last time I checked, they got pretty close until the US “bumbled” around and defended Port Moresby and fought the Battle of the Coral Sea. Maybe you would prefer to be speaking Japanese?

I only point this out because the US did not fight these battles for altruistic motives. The US was involved out of self interest then just as we are now. The only difference is that it also benefitted YOU that time.

One can also say that some of our allies (not including Australia) actively undermined the chance of any success by following their own self interest that had nothing to do with altruism OR a greater understanding of strategic realities. Instead, the opposition was based mainly on commercial interests and domestic political pressure.

This is happening again now in Iran, with the Chinese, Russians, and French being more than willing to make a few bucks by selling nuclear technology.

Anyone who thinks that ANY government will act out of anything but what it thinks serves its own interests is stupid.

I do agree with you though that we did “make a botch of it” in Iraq. It really did not have to end like this if it had been handled differently.

  8. critic, making a comparison to our actions in WWII is preposterous. Do some research about what Dwight D. Eisenhower termed the “Military-industrial complex” to see just how radically and fundamentally our reasons for fighting a war have changed.

  9. G-spank, you completely missed the point. Comparison with WWII is appropriate from the standpoint of motive. Why don’t you do some research and see about US politics leading up to our entry into the war.

We already had a military industrial complex that would have been very happy to continue supplying the British and Russians, but that business was threatened by the near closure of North Atlantic shipping lanes by German u-boats. Domestic politics prevented US entry into the war, until we were directly threatened (attacked) at Pearl Harbor. If you believe in conspiracies, you could question the delay in the advance notice of the Japanese threat to the head of the Pacific Command at Pearl Harbor a day earlier.

The country was acting in self interest after that, and FDR was given an opening to advance US policy objectives by warfare as well. The onlly difference why people, seemingly you included, have a more romantic view of WWII is that we achieved our objectives fairly quickly. Had the US not developed nuclear weapons, the war would have gone much differently, dragged on much longer, and would have resulted in much higher US and civilian casualties in the Pacific. How would history judge US strategy in WWII then?

By the way, if you don’t think that the “military-industrial complexes” of France, Russia, and China are steering national policies in those countries, then you are delusional.

  10. gstank is a disguting, driveling, loser, and is wrong as usual. Rush Limbaugh is enlightening. Try actually listening to him. He exposes you dirt balls daily and it drives you nuts. Keep up the fight Rush.

  11. Some salient points:

GW: “Stay The Course” mantra. Then says “this was never about stay the course”.
So what does that make him? A (get ready, here it comes, I never get tired of this) FLIP-FLOPPER!!!

Red state vs. Blue state= BULLSHIT. Almost all states are evenly divided (I SAID ALMOST). We in America are PURPLE.

re: news. When I travel to Europe, it is then I see what a bubble we live in. Our news isn’t even really news. I won’t deny some networks lean left, but the idea that “some people say” ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” /> FOX is “fair and balanced”- are you stupid? Really. Are you?
Actually, the idea that people watch it thinking it is NEWS. You HAVE to be an idiot.
But, then again this country elected a chimpanzee as president. Twice.

  12. critic,

It’s clear that you don’t understand the meaning of “Military Industrial complex”, especially since the term was coined after WWII. Please explain to me, exactly, why we went to war with Iraq?

    Consider this in your response:

    1) There are many, many more countries with much stronger ties to Al Queda than Iraq
    2) The latest CIA report on WMD’s on Iraq before invading was inconclusive
    3) Al Queda is well documented to despise Saddam Huesein.
    4) Iraq is one of the few secular countries in the region, another reason why Al Queda did not get along with the people of the country.

Now, explain how that is similar to fighting the Japanese, a country who attacked us directly. Please, I’m dying to see how you spin it.

  13. The saddest thing about this thread:

All of the people who have made all of these ridiculous anti- Al Jazeera comments HAVE MOST LIKELY NEVER EVEN WATCHED IT. Those statements pretty much kill the often touted notion by MDN that “Mac users are generally better educated than their Windows counterparts”.

You can take the redneck out of the trailer park, but you can’t take the trailer park out of the redneck. 🙁

  14. Tim, your post is SO ENLIGHTENING.
You have a REAL COMMAND of the ENGLISH LAUNGUAGE, don’t you?

I so enjoy some of these (so-called) “conservative” posters, for the depth and brevity of the discourse they provide.

Yeah, I gotta admit it Tim.
I try not to let it bother me, but (weeping now) dammit, not a day goes by that I am not cognizant of the fact that RUSH IS EXPOSING ME FOR WHAT I KNOW I TRULY AM. A DIRT BALL!

(Again, Tim, wow. Consice. Razor-sharp. WOW.).

    Please, post more for us.

HHHAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA HA HA HA HA H!!!!!!!!!

  15. WTF? The article is about Al Jazeera using MACs. How in the hell did the conversation turn to so-called, “gun-toting conservatives and tree hugging liberals”?

The one thing we can all agree on is – Al Jazeera TV cannot be trusted. Or at lease be taken with a grain-of-salt.

  16. I have watched Al-Jazeera and it is definitely anti-american, pro-terrorist. It has some interesting pieces but it’s a propaganda distributer for Islamic terrorists. No amount of sugar coating from the likes of g-spank or always wrong will change that. Just like the mainstream media in the US is propaganda for the liberal democrat nut cases here. The libs hate Rush and Fox because they expose you for who you are. That just sucks for you doesn’t it.

  17. All of the liberal and liberal foreigner posters here are really very, very creepy. They make your skin crawl. The US made a big mistake this past election. It will be proven over the next 2 years. I will enjoy watching the dems make complete idiots out of themselves. Hopefully they don’t cause a massive terrorist attack to happen on their watch. I bet they do.

  18. to start: I trust al jazeera as much as I trust CNN or FOX NEWS

that said (he he), there’s only one way kids:

try your hardest at school. drop out if you have to… and you just might have to… but be smart. like really smart. not say… karl rove smart but maybe steve jobs smart.

try your hardest to gain real wisdom. yes, the real kind… not like george doubleyuh… maybe like… dick che… just kidding… no, like –I dunno… Ghandi (you know, the bald guy who’s not fat… and not a republican)

try your hardest to be an idealist. I mean sometimes it’s hard, but it must be done. now, I’m not talking of a war mongering, hateful and dogmatic idealism that some try to pass down from the moral high ground. no, no –I’m talking true idealism. the tough part is that most people do not have the wisdom strength, patience or compassion to be influenced by something as tricky as idealism. the society we have been building in recent years is a machine built on greed and sheer consumerism/capitalism. it’s strange… to listen to me, you’d think I was religious. I’m not.

anyway, treat people the way you want to be treated. be a wise and intelligent idealist. be happy. make others happy. hell, you can even laugh… at me if you want…

is this an apple web site? yes, of course it is… what were we talking about? oh yes: right/left = bad/good = wonderbread/baguette = pepsi/coke = cavalier/bmw = cheesewhiz/camembert = wintel/mactel… they’re all pretty close don’t ya think? oh, they’re not? prove it. can’t? it’s subjective isn’t it? yes, it hurts the brain.

what am I saying? I don’t know –it’s getting late. but, to read this thread, what I’m forced to believe is this:

    neo-con right wing american:
a crying mad, red-faced two year old boy throwing a temper tantrum (with a large defence budget and a foreign policy that will see his children’s children are damned to hell).

    left-leaning liberal american w/ tree-hugging tendencies:
a wise and friendly helpful Mac user who sits smugly in decent cafés, drinks his/hes espresso short, has a penchant for good industrial design and world peace (has a large defence budget but spends it all on hookers… foreign policy? no money left… tries smiling and holding doors open)
