This is certainly a controversial move
Too slow MDN, Software Update informed me before you did
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”raspberry” style=”border:0;” />
That was quick… doesn’t even need a restart.
Fred: What is controversial? An update to iTunes?
software update told me as this page loaded, freaky
rasterbator: It is NOT a controversial move in the slightest; that’s my point (irony).
Slow ripping to libraries with large number of playists is fixed for me!
HA!!
I’m on iTunes 6.x and loving it, stupid TV shows and movies, who needs all that hard drive clogging sh&t anyway?
I use the ORIGINAL Coverflow on my second 23″ ADC, the cd covers are larger than life!!
People drool, Volume Logic works and I’m not bitching over all the changes.
Life is good and iTunes 7 sucks ass. Flame away fcktwads, amen and praise? jobs. I don’t think so.
iTunes 7 bloat, fix the bugs, fix the bugs, fix the bugs. STOP THE BLOAT!!! Little Mac’s are suffering.

Morris……you scare me…really
I think I just got dumber by reading that last comment.
“Morris, time for din din” aka MacDude
Morris, Go eat dinner. Your blood sugar is low.
damn the video is still choppy in windowed view(on windows). Anyone have the same problem?
Just to clear up any confusion there might have been, I was referring to Morris and the utter lack of coherence in his comment.
Morris,
I think I just decided to give you herpes. And I promise not to tell anyone about your third nipple.
Morris: Do you (or anyone else) know how to download iTunes 6? I uninstalled iTunes 7 from my computer and installed the version that came with my computer – iTunes 4x.
I’d like to go up to version 6, but not 7. Anyone know where to download it from? Thanks.
Does anyone really understand Morris’ post?
DW,
You can do a search for it on Apple.com
Sweet. Thanks!
Hey DW, the old iTunes is one of the top downloads on Apple.com. Go to software downloads and then narrow it down to Apple downloads. The Mac version is here – http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/itunes605formac.html – and the Windows version is here – http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/itunes605forwindows.html . Good luck (I’m loving the new version myself…)
You beat me to it, Grey…

Thank the cat food gods for these links
Since the recent security/airport update I have noticed Safari crashing on some flash heavy sites. I wonder when they are going to fix it.
cool, now with the update of itunes 7.01 pirated music also gets covers!! YIHAAAA!!!
“greatcaffeine” you had me literally in tears with that comment.
This is certainly very somber news.
Does anyone know if Apple updated the iPod firmware from 1.2 with this release? Version 1.2 broke my 60GB 5G iPod with video – all I get are scrambled sceens and freezes when I update, requiring a restore with version 1.1.2. (I suppose I’ll find out in a few hours anyway, but if anybody knows…?)
what about the album-art issues?
it would be great to have the option of either attaching the artwork to the file itself, or removing all artwork from the files and have a single file in the itunes folder. i just don’t like the inconsistency with artwork that was previously attached with that which we can now download.
and what about the cover art screensaver? will the 10.4.8 update allow us to show off that “beautiful” artwork steve was so proud of?
and one more thing…
i have a feeling all our complaints with coverflow will be resolved with core-animation in leopard… agree??
trex67: A failure that severe would be all over the Mac news sites. Are you sure that it wasn’t a glitch while updating? I’d try to update again.
trex67 — I’ve been having zero problems with my 5G 60GB iPod under the 1.2 firmware update…you might try a complete restore, rather than an update, on the next try…
Thanks for the tips, folks.
But, I’ve actually got a gripe: In order to play the songs I purchased throughout the years, I am forced to upgrade to iTunes 7??? That seems a bit ridiculous. I PAYED for those songs fair and square, so why should I be forced to upgrade at a time that Apple suggests in order to play them?
G4 1.5PPC continues to not restart on command. Also with 7.01 the Wallflowers ‘we could be hers’ would not sync until I loaded it into a separate playlist. Then on my 5g video it displayed Hillary Duff artwork. The Mac still has the original artwork.
Bugs?

To LordRobin:
It certainly wasn’t just me. If you go to the discussion forums (http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=808) for iPod at apple.com you’ll find dozens of people have had this problem. I realize if you haven’t had a problem you don’t need to check the forums to find out if it’s widespread or not. As to why it hasn’t been more widely reported, your guess is as good as mine. It may only affect some of the earliest 5G video iPods – I ordered mine the day they were announced.
To justme2:
I’m glad you haven’t had any problems with 1.2. I guess most people who’ve upgraded have been OK. To clarify my experience (and I’ve read many identical accounts), I downloaded/installed iTunes 7.0 the afternoon it was released. I then docked my 60GB 5G iPod and was notified that a new version of the iPod, 1.2, was available. I clicked on the update button, and after it installed the iPod automatically restarted. Within a few seconds, I realized I had a problem – the screen “scrambled” (that’s just the only way I can describe it) and froze. The clickwheel was completely unresponsive. Naturally, I panicked. I reset using the menu and select buttons on the iPod, but after the iPod restarted, it scrambled and froze again. I repeated this sequence a couple more times, same result. I then tried to restore with 1.2, which deleted the contents, but I figured it was toast anyway at that point. All that process got me was a frozen iPod that was empty as well. LUCKILY, I was able to downgrade to version 1.1.2 using the previous updater which was still in my utilities folder.
The real downside for me is that I was hoping to sell this iPod and buy an 80B 5.5G. But who wants to buy an iPod that they can’t upgrade to the newest version? (Would you?) So, unless Apple decides to fix this rare exceptional problem, I’m kinda stuck.
BTW, I’m a total Mac fanatic, and this crappy experience hasn’t changed that. I’ve got a lemon, but it still works fine, just not as fine as I’d like.
I got the songs to play. It took a little hack on my computer for some reason. Thanks.
anyone have the nike+ipod kit? I’ve got it, and the volume of the nike woman’s voice is really loud compared to my music…
Am I the only one with this problem? is it related to iTunes 7?
How do you completely uninstall itunes 7 on a mac? I’ve downloaded 6, but can only get so far in the installation process. After selecting my location (mac hd), I get “package name: itunes – action disabled”.
Am I missing something?
I get that too KM, does anyone know how to completly uninstall itunes 7 for a mac?
I finally just deleted every itunes folder or package I had in applications, HD, and home>library. Then I emptied my trash and downloaded itunes 6 just fine.
Make sure you copy your library to a disc first, etc.
