The Flip4Mac WMV component, used to play Windows Media content in the Quicktime player in Mac OS X, has been released as a universal binary beta.
Flip4Mac WMV is a collection of QuickTime components that allow you to play, import, and export Windows Media video and audio files. Flip4Mac WMV can be used with most of your favorite QuickTime applications including QuickTime Player, iMovie and Final Cut Pro. After installing Flip4Mac WMV you can play Windows Media files using QuickTime Player and view Windows Media content on the Internet using Safari and other Web browsers.
This is a closed beta, but links to the beat download can be found here.
MacDailyNews Note: We’ve been using it since yesterday afternoon and the browser plugin works in Safari without issue on Intel-based Macs.

I’ll chime in. Flip4Mac has been a godsend, as far as I’m concerned. It’s never given me any problems, and it’s so much better than the old abandoned WMP. For one thing, being based on the Quicktime player, the plug-in shows the preloading progress, instead of just leaving you to wonder if any progress was being made at all. Also, you can “scrub” during playback, running it back and forward to find a spot, something not possible with other WMV players.
Flip4Mac is good software. I haven’t had problems with it. I run a macbook pro. The problem I have is with the lack of support from websites/web browsers to give more “seemless” support to mac users. It’s a pain that you have to go finding a work around just to watch a webtv hockey game because the website sponsoring the event only caders to windows users. I think this is going to change though, since more people desire a computer for multi-media reasons, than spreadsheet reasons.
