  1. I was playing Call Of Duty, right after I updated and the system rebooted, and the cooling fan started, as usual. But after I finished playing, ejected the DVD, after a few minutes, the fan was still spinning, and continued for almost an hour, until I restarted the machine. Now it has stopped.

Can anyone confirm that issue? I guess the fan starts, and when the computer is already cooled down, it continues to spin.

I use a Mac mini, PowerPC.

  2. </i>”For those with Safari crashes, the cause is the new Flash Player. The updated Flash Player was released on 3/30/06.”</i>

Is Adobe aware of this, or is that a rhetoical question?

The new update was supposed to address security issues. Where can I find the last version. Do they have an archives section? Thanks.

  3. “The version I linked in my previous comments is the new version. Adobe is aware of it and fixed the problems with the 3/30/2006 update.”

    Misunderstood your post. Thanks………

  4. I’ve always found permissions for a repair with the finder. Now I can’t find permissions on 10.3.9. Also, I just got an iBook G$ for my daughter in college. Where do I find permissions in the iBook. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  5. Updated to 10.4.6 on my trusty iBook 800 MHz dual-USB with stock 30GB 4200 RPM drive and 640 MB RAM/32 MB VRAM — initially, the desktop and finder actions were sluggish — menus would pull down slowly, taking seconds to render fully — Safari was goopy and slow with several tabs open — normally would function fine under 10.4.5. Quit Safari in preparation to reboot, and suddenly Finder became responsive again — restarted Safari without rebooting, and Safari was finally fuctioning correctly, with sluggishness gone.

Overall, Safari and Firefox seem snappier and a bit more responsive, and browser screens seem to build a bit faster (using broadband connection) — actually watched an online tech show broadcasted in H.264 format –normally, this sort of stuff stutters badly, usually making it unwatchable on this older G3 machine — this time, however, some minor stuttering of video on occasion, running at between 5-10 frames/sec (my guess) but audio was perfect and never missed a beat — overall, video was very watchable without being annoying — hmmmm — quite good for this old technology.

Going to try out the Cisco VPN fixes in the next couple of days.

UPDATE: Have lost DHCP server/port sharing of iBook — usually, I use the iBook’s dial-up modem connection to establish internet connectivity, then go to the sharing control panel and share the iBook’s modem connection to other computers that are connected to the iBook through to Ethernet — normally works very well on previous versions of Tiger — iBook is supposed to provide private network addressing of 192.168.2.x to other Ethernet connected computers via its DHCP server — can’t get any of the other computers on the Ethernet network to see a 192.168.2.x address coming from iBook — wonder what Apple has changed in 10.4.6 — ports blocked or some such that I need to reconfigure?

    Niffy

Possibly was the sluggishness due to Spotlight indexing? This frequently happens right after an OS update. Was the disc spinning like mad?
