“The delayed launch of Microsoft’s Vista is expected to negatively affect the company and overall winter 2006 PC demand, but it could be positive for Apple Computer, analysts say,” Maya Roney reports for Forbes. “Apple, with its refreshed Intel product line and anticipated launch of a new Mac operating system in the fall, could benefit from the diminished competition, according to a Wednesday research note from Bear Stearns.”
“As to other investment implications, analyst Andrew Neff said the Vista delay could be perceived as a negative for Dell, Gateway and Hewlett-Packard, ‘although the weakness could be offset by strength in first quarter 2007,'” Roney reports. “Piper Jaffray also sees the new January launch date as a ‘fractional near-term positive’ for Apple.”

MacDailyNews Take: It’s pretty sick and sad that Microsoft has to totally screw up for some to even think it could result in a positive for Apple Macintosh when, even after Vista is finally released, Mac OS X’s user experience will still be years and years ahead of Windows. Sheesh, Mac OS X 10.1 was/is better than Vista promises to be! It’s so clear that Mac OS X is superior to Windows XP that we sometimes can’t imagine that most average people have absolutely no earthly idea. Sometimes we just want to slap them to wake them up as they wheel total crap Windows PCs out of Best Buy like lemmings. Some of the poor bastards are even beaming about their purchasing mistake as they follow the pimply Best Buy hand-truck guy out to the parking lot. Ignorance is indeed bliss. A Mac would save them soooo much pain and frustration! Oh, well, at this point, with Apple practicing some sort of Mac marketing that takes the term “stealth” to a whole new level, we’re happy to see new Mac users regardless of their reasons for taking the plunge.

Probally so, takes hours too I bet.
Apple’s Mac OS X updates do not scan the drive for malicious files, nor does it warn you of any potential backdoors that might be open on your system. It takes hours to check the whole drive, much like a anti-virus scan does.
VNC enabled in Apple Remote Desktop is a perfectly legitiment use why would Apple need to warn you about something you’ve supposely enabled on your own? A previous compromise could have altered System Preferences just enough so that the checkbox next to VNC and the password field are empty.
You wouldn’t know a thing and think your system is perfectly updated and safe.
It’s always wise to do a fresh install and update of the OS routinely. Change your IP address, Wifi names and all passwords too.
A unmoving target is a easy target.
It’s rather a shame we Mac users now have to fret about security of our machines like Windows users.

I’d agree with you, if there was in fact a known, working OSX virus in the wild. The fact is: THERE ARE STILL NO OSX VIRUSES IN THE WILD.
None.
Nada.
Nichts.
Null.
Niente.
ZERO.
Giving a hacker local access to infiltrate a system doesn’t count.
The only OSX users who need to worry about security are those who are dumb enough to use Symantec products.
Look, if you really are a Mac user (I seriously doubt it) and are so unhapy with your Mac, I’d be more than glad to take it off your hands.
MacDude….
Yes, I have NEVER HAD MY OS GO DOWN SINCE 1994!!! PERIOD.
I have repeatly wiped the hard drive on 98/98se/XP, etc to put the damn system back the way it was. From the United States to Japan and back. I have had to recover so many damn pc boxes from virus, corrupted info, and so MANY G-DAMN problems that I gave up. In fact I changed my damn career due to it…..tooo damn repetitive.
And you can smoke that in your pipe!!!!! All night long. Funny that you wiill never be able to state that with any truth and you knoow it. Ask any person if they have Windows and if they had to reinstall the damn OS due to failure? Ask any tech and they smile as money rolls in.
The louder you yell, the more we laugh……You must target and on Windows you only have to wait.
I lost five damn JPEGS in iPhoto last month and that has been the only G-DAMN thing I have lost due to the computers OS, since YES, 1994!!!!
Ask any Mac user on system stablity and compare that with the PC user with every damn method known to keep it going.
Mac people normally just say….I dont know how it works, hardly ever have a problem. Because you do not have to screw with it the inner workings of the damn thing. That is way the MAC is SUPERIOR to the
Windows…..because it works without having a tech degree!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So have fun running because the truth lies in a 500 pound sledge hammer!!!!!!!
Oh, check as to why the Army and other branches set-up Mac units to protect information on a PC Network…….check it out!!!! This, by the way, is sensitive information they are protecting………….before you try to flame everyperson that has had a better computing experience, realize that Windows or Mac are not end all products…..Mac just operate longer without problems.
Have a nice day!
How is it MacDude has come to live his life on MDN.
Sad sad sad.
NGC598: Regarding losing JPEGs in iPhoto…
Quit iPhoto.
Hold down, both, the “alt” and “command [apple]” keys when you launch iPhoto. You will get a dialog box offering you various options to clean up your iPhoto’s directory. If you’re not sure which ones to check, do them all. This has cured all of the ills of my friends’ photos.
If you have hundreds of photos, some of these processes can take a very long time. I once had to wait 45 minutes, but it was well worth it and fixed all of the problems. (I wish more applications had this feature!)
Macdude and others,
I think WinTel is as much an alliance as the Warsaw Pact was. It’s apparent that Intel has been both stifled and smackeds down by MS on several occasions. So I don’t think they will go out of their way to accomodate MS. A chip sold is a chip sold. And Apple looks much more willing to use Intel hitech hardware solutions than MS, which generally want to do their own sameish things in software. So no, I don’t think Intel will favotitise MS. My ten kopek.
10.1 may be better than Vista turns out to be, but even 10.4 isn’t better than Microsoft promises Vista will be.
so everyone is talking about the big opportunity this delay for apple will be. so why then is AAPL falling like a rock the last days? whats going on here? time to buy?
Apple stock went up after the news, and Dell, Intel, Microsoft, HP, and others went down.
MacDude needs to relieve the pressure in his loins, Since he aint getting any at home, he has to pretend to be superior somewhere. We should probably call him coyote-man since odds are he just lays by the hole and howls. Of course he could be in need of the blue pill. Can anyone say, shooting pool with a rope!!
