“The delayed launch of Microsoft’s Vista is expected to negatively affect the company and overall winter 2006 PC demand, but it could be positive for Apple Computer, analysts say,” Maya Roney reports for Forbes. “Apple, with its refreshed Intel product line and anticipated launch of a new Mac operating system in the fall, could benefit from the diminished competition, according to a Wednesday research note from Bear Stearns.”
“As to other investment implications, analyst Andrew Neff said the Vista delay could be perceived as a negative for Dell, Gateway and Hewlett-Packard, ‘although the weakness could be offset by strength in first quarter 2007,'” Roney reports. “Piper Jaffray also sees the new January launch date as a ‘fractional near-term positive’ for Apple.”

MacDailyNews Take: It’s pretty sick and sad that Microsoft has to totally screw up for some to even think it could result in a positive for Apple Macintosh when, even after Vista is finally released, Mac OS X’s user experience will still be years and years ahead of Windows. Sheesh, Mac OS X 10.1 was/is better than Vista promises to be! It’s so clear that Mac OS X is superior to Windows XP that we sometimes can’t imagine that most average people have absolutely no earthly idea. Sometimes we just want to slap them to wake them up as they wheel total crap Windows PCs out of Best Buy like lemmings. Some of the poor bastards are even beaming about their purchasing mistake as they follow the pimply Best Buy hand-truck guy out to the parking lot. Ignorance is indeed bliss. A Mac would save them soooo much pain and frustration! Oh, well, at this point, with Apple practicing some sort of Mac marketing that takes the term “stealth” to a whole new level, we’re happy to see new Mac users regardless of their reasons for taking the plunge.

Macdude, what OS do you use?
Apple is shipping.
SHIPPING WHAT?
Some trial run, 2 GB max, lame 32 bit throwback, dual core processsor with no FIREWIRE 800 and only one FIREWIRE 400?
Then there is no, repeat NO, professional level software ready yet and won’t be UNTIL VISTA IS RELEASED!!
Oh boy, we can see where ADOBE’s heart is at now can’t we?
Adobe has to get things right for VISTA and then port to Mac OS X. Same with game makers.
So you see children, Microsoft is hampering Mac sales because of the Vista delay!
“Apple won’t subsidize a X-Box like device like Microsoft does for a loss year after year.”
Nor should Apple subsidize such a loss. Better to stay with the money makers, esp. with competition as serious as the PS3 on the way.
“Microsoft is delaying Vista release so it can sell more X-Boxes next Christmas.”
This same delay is going to be very costly for MS’s biggest customers, the PC clone makers. To infuriate your best customers in the name of selling a money loser is the height of insanity. But then considering who Ballmer is…

“SHIPPING WHAT?
Mac OS X. 10.4.5 as matter of fact, with 10.5 in the wings.
Where’s Vista 1.0?

Extremely

But you don’t understand!!
Microsoft is delaying Vista till after the holidays to sell more X-Boxes because it doesn’t want people to 3D game on PC’s, they want to take over the living room through the X-Box.
That’s Microsofts solution, take the PC’s out of the hands of kids and there will be few problems.
After all why make such a insecure OS for so many years that it pisses off the consumer market to computers?
Most buisneses really want to wait till after the holidays before taking a chance on Vista anyway!
All those Christmas bonuses you know.
Microsoft is about strenghtening PC’s in buisness and the X-Box for consumers.
Windows is a nightmare for consumers on purpose, to sell X-Boxes that will eventually be slimmed down and controlled computers.
Bill, Take YOur Sweet TIme to Launch.
If you can delay for another 2 years, will be even better.
Mac OS X. 10.4.5 as matter of fact, with 10.5 in the wings.
Where’s Vista 1.0?
Who cares if Mac OS X is ten lightyears ahead of Vista, buisnesses will stick to it like glue regardless.
NOTHING APPLE CAN MAKE WILL BUDGE BUISNESSES TO ADOPT MAC OS X.
As long as Apple has a vertical buisness market they will be stuck, of course now buisnesses can buy Macs and chose to switch to Windows.
But it would be better to buy cheap universal PC’s instead of being locked ino Apple hardware.
Apple has repeatly said they are a consumer oriented company.
Unless they change to become a ordinary PC vendor like Dell, compete on price and quality, and also sell the optional Mac OS X.
I actually think it’s dumb to allow Windows on a Mac, since now no developers will code for it and make Mac users boot windows.
I think Vista is coming for Mac’s
NOW LISTEN TO ME FOLKS! I’M A BIT OF AN ASS BUT I KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT. YOU ALL ARE SO STUPID. I HATE ALL OF YOU AND THE MAC REALLY SUCKS TO.
I’M RICH. SEE I KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT. I KNOW ALL ABOUT PC COMPUTERS AND MICROSOFT SOFTWARE AND NT AND XP STUFF..
IF YOU ADDED UP THE INTELLIGENCE OF EVERYONE ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD IT WOULDNT FILL A THIMBLE COMPARED TO MY 5 GALLON JUG OF KNOWLEDGE.
SO NOW IT SHOULD BE PERFECTLY CLEAR THAT I DON’T REALLY KNOW SQUAT BUT IT DOESN’T MATTER, I JUST LOVE PISSING YOU ALL OFF AND DO IT PRETTY WELL. WHEN EVERYONE STOPS REACTING TO MY RANTING I’LL PROBLY HAVE TO GO STIR THINGS UP SOMEWHERE ELSE. YOU ALL ARE IDIOTS.
Yes, Microsoft will make bazillions of dollars on Vista.
But it won’t be an overnight turn around. Many companies still use Win 2000 and customized versions of XP Pro. They are not about to shell huge sums of money in licensing for Vista. Nor do these corporations upgrade Office at every new release. There is no need to, unless they’re run by a bunch of geeks.
And no this delay probably won’t help Apple.
But that is just fine.
I just wish IBM would have pushed OS2 more or even started using lots of Macs in their huge corporation.
Can you guess where I’m hiding until I find something better to do? Most people in these huge corporations just hid and do enought to keep from getting fired.
That is why I want Apple to stay small and inovative.
PLEASE MDN… give us a MacDude edit button.
There are a lot people here cloning me
You’ll know the real MacDude when you see this as I have special powers.
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
The rest are jealous, maladjusted copycats.
Carry on.
MacDude, do us all a favor will you? Either just kill yourself, or shut-up already.. No one here wants to hear you whine anymore… It’s old, boring and has long-lost it’s novelty…
Whether you write as Pauline, MacDude, Mary, etc.. etc. It’s ALL THE SAME BS! Just fricking go away!
People here are interested in news about Apple and the Mac… If all your gonna do is complain then your not welcome… It’s called trolling! You offer absolutely nothing consctructive.. WTF is the point?
Is your life really that miserable? Are you really so unhappy? I mean, come on…. Apple is a computer/electronics company, If you don’t like what they have to sell than fine, don’t buy their shit… But is it really so necessary to waste so much energy writing about how much you dislike everything they do? Buy a PC with XP and be done with it…
Just get over yourself… Please!
Find one article from any “reputable” reporter that says XP blows away Tiger. It doesn’t exist. The so-called wonderful Vista that’s non-existent, is once again, another Mac OS ripoff. Gates simply cannot invent his own OS. The reason Vista keeps pushing its release dates back (for so MANY years), is because Apple continues to upgrade and release innovative features. The the son of a bitch, Gates, can’t keep up. If MS could do it on they’re own, it would have been released years ago.
Now is the time to have boxes of OS X sitting on the shelves of CompUSA and Best Buy. That is, OS X for all computers.
Are you really so unhappy?
Yes I am unfortunatly, Apple is too blame for making a cult product.
Is it my fault my screws got loose because of their marketing methods? Perhaps.
Perhaps Apple needs to fix me. I was fine before getting this Mac.
I want to warn others away from this evil company. Most people would just leave.
But I was a born fighter, I have a insatible need to warn others, before they fall into the cult like trap that’s Apple, with their white plastic computers.
iPods are fine, it’s Mac OS X that’s evil, something about it is messing with people’s minds really bad.
Have a free mind, before it gets caught up in the blind religious stare of the brainwashed Mac Addict.
Go AWAY from Apple! GO AWAY!!
Don’t buy nothing from them, their computers brainwash you!!
You’ll spend all your hard earned money looking for happiness in a machine and wind up like me after 30 years!!
Look, I’m drooling…
The delay gives Microsoft more time to “innovate” (copy Apple).
“Don’t buy nothing from them.”
Nice try, but even Macdude is smart enough not to use a double negative.. Next time, try writing “don’t buy anything from them…”
Saying “Don’t buy nothing” means to buy something.
Saying “Don’t buy nothing” means to buy something.
You see, they even got my subconcious programmed.
Arrrh!!
Just in case, I better leave here from keeping that from happining again.
I might leave, but there are many other MacDude clones. Good luck and goodbye cruel MacWorld!!!
MacDude is gone. good.
Listen I got some inside information, apparantly Quanta Computer has been contracted to begin volume production of a video iPod.
Apple is very sensitive to any mention of who actually makes their products, so the info was pulled shortly after posting online.
This was all I was able to get, here is the page it was on
http://www.macnn.com/not_found/?path=path=06/03/22/quanta.to.make.ipods/“
See what the URL says?
” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” />
Typical. Once they hear about WWDC in August, they push back Vista’s ship date; in hopes they will find something new they can take from the Leopard previews, gut them, destroy their usefulness, and give it an ugly icon and call it their own “innovation”
MDN MW: The writing is all over the walls here folks
Ok Ok we’re all having fun bagging MS. But seriousley this is an opportunity for MS to finally get it right. It’s proven computers can be pretty much 95% secure and virtualy unhackable. Apple have proved that. Apple arn’t invincible, as has been show with recent proof of concept viruses and worms. I can’t understand why MS doesn’t go the Apple approach and base vista on UNIX. Maybe that’s not possible, maybe that’s what they are doing I don’t know. I’m a Mac user and love it. This I see as Microsofts opportunity to take there time, as long as it takes, and release an OS that works and works well the first time. No matter how much we love our Macs we still have to live in a world that is over 90% MS. That won’t be changing for a long time.
MacDude, serious question regarding a compromised system.
You mention that Apple does not fix a compromised system when it releases a security patch (or a new OS update for that matter). Is this something that Microsoft, Red Hat, Novell are also guilty of or is this just an Apple thing?
I know a lot about computers, but not from a programming standpoint, more from an admin standpoint and it would seem to me that an update by itself would not be able to fix a compromised file. Is this why MS now makes you download and run the “Malicious Tool Removal” application everytime you run Software Update?
