Apple’s iOS accounts for a staggering 18% of all online sales worldwide

“If you are at any level involved in the digital transformation of retail, run a website offering goods or services, or are in any way involved in any form of consumer-facing business you have no choice but to support Apple’s mobile platforms,” Jonny Evans reports for Computerworld.

“Fresh today we learn that iPhones and iPads now account for over 18 percent of all online transactions globally,” Evans reports. “When you combine both iPhones and iPads, these devices constitute 64.1 percent of browser based online transactions.”

“The data also confirms the truism that iOS users spend more per transaction than those on other platforms. It found that shoppers using an iPad spend an average of $115 per transaction, $18 higher than those using Android tablets,” Evans reports. “iPhone users also spent $82 on average in comparison to Android’s slightly more modest $75.”

  1. …”iPads now account for over 18 percent of all online transactions globally,” (…) “When you combine both iPhones and iPads, these devices constitute 64.1 percent of browser based online transactions.”

What is the difference here? Am I missing something? What is 18%, and what is 64.1%?

    1. Not all online transactions are browser based? I’m guessing a lot of purchases happen online in apps or other online methods? It said 18% of all online transactions and 64.1% of browser based ones.

    2. I’m going to guess those non-browser based online transactions include those via mobile App or Desktop Application specific to retailers and use web-based APIs. Seems the purchase value gap between iOS and Android users continues to narrow.. And depending on the device actually exceed iPad and iPhone according to this aritcle. http://www.zdnet.com/article/ios-users-more-valuable-than-their-android-counterparts-but-the-gap-is-closing/?tag=nl.e539&s_cid=e539&ttag=e539&ftag=TRE17cfd61

  2. Unlike Amazoolo, Apple sells products that enhances their ecosystems. Bozo the clown sells almost everything at rock bottom prices or undercut prices to undermine local stores and competition.
