Apple is preparing a second major product launch later this month to introduce its first touch-screen MacBook along with a new iPad mini, according to Bloomberg News’ Mark Gurman.

The event is scheduled on or around Tuesday, October 27th, people familiar with the plans told Gurman. It will also include updated versions of the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the iMac powered by the new M6 chip. Like the company’s smart home-focused event set for around October 13th, the late-month launch is expected to feature both an online video presentation and an in-person component for the press.

The showcase is aimed at creative professionals working in video production, photo editing, and music production. Apple last held a similar in-person product event in Los Angeles in 2024.

The new touch-screen MacBook Pro models, internally code-named K114 and K116, will be lighter than current versions and feature OLED displays. They will also include the Dynamic Island interface familiar to iPhone users, replacing the traditional notch. Bloomberg News first reported on the long-running touch-screen MacBook project in 2023. Meanwhile, the new M6-equipped 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac (code-named J804 and J833) will retain their existing designs.

The refreshed iPad mini, code-named J510, will gain an OLED screen, a front-facing camera repositioned to the landscape side for better video calls, and a revamped speaker system. The company is also planning additional new Macs and iPads for the first half of next year, Gurman has previously reported.

The dual October launches form part of a busy product slate under Chief Executive Officer John Ternus, who assumed the role last month and is focused on expanding Apple into new markets while growing services revenue. Apple has not publicly confirmed the October 27th event or the specific products.

  1. I am typing thiss replly on my 2016 MacBk Pro. You know, the oone with the butterfly keyboard desig ed by Joony Ivve and team to make the laptop thinner. Ovver the course of a decade’s use, I now get double, soometimes trippplr letters typped frm a single keystrooke and sometimes missing spaces or an adjoining letter appear also. You vcan see all the extra oor missing letters and adjacent letters that I have to then go back and fix. I did not rush ttype this. I hit one key at a ttime. I wish the 2016 MacBook Pro lapptop had a touch screen where I had an alternate means to type withoout having to carry aroound an extra keyboard that woorks. I have an HP all-in-one iMac wannabe that has a touch screen. I use the touch screen occasionally for coonvenience when it fits. I checked the screen and I don’t see the smears and smudges MDN frets aboout. There may be some, but it is not drastically appparent. Maybe MDN sould consider washing their hands frequently if they are that dirty after eating, or with skin oils and Lord knows what else if they wish t avoid those “smears”.
