Apple arrived slightly late to foldable phones. As per Bloomberg Tech, that delay looks less like a miss and more like a choice.
In a segment titled “Apple’s Foldable iPhone Duo Shows the Upside of Waiting,” Bloomberg News’ Chris Welch walks through an early look at the $1,999 iPhone Duo and argues that Apple’s first foldable already raises the bar rivals spent years chasing. He joins Ed Ludlow to talk hinge, display, and software — the three places earlier foldables most often felt unfinished.
The Duo folds a 7.6-inch inner display into a 5.4-inch cover screen and a passport-like closed shape. Apple priced the 256GB model just under $2,000, with higher storage climbing toward $3,000.
Preorders start October 16; the phone goes on sale October 23. It uses the same A20 Pro chip as the new slab iPhones, carries an IP68 rating, and supports a later Apple Pencil software update.

Besides people who have specific reasons to need a phone with a small tablet built in… like travel, maybe a business app or artwork, etc.. I just don’t see a lot of reason to buy one these things.
Tablets have not taken off barely at all. And there’s probably a reason for that. Sure Apple, I guess, did it a little better(hinge)and a bit worse (SW) and took a WHOLE LOT longer, but what are you really getting, I wonder, after the cool factor fades.
You can easily buy a new iPhone and iPad for that. And for a little more Pro versions of both, getting a LOT more and a LOT better products. The Duo is awkwardly shaped and thick. Looks like the outside screen is gonna be severely exposed to scratches.
My dream folding iPhone would be a flip design. Small when closed and a large full sized iPhone when open. Making it EASIER to pocket NOT harder. A small sized screen about the size of the medium widget on the outside for notifications, messages, photos, camera, calls, time, weather, temp, now playing screen, etc. – is a very functional, practical, and less scratch prone concept.
It’s a flip phone and iPhone, basic style phone and smart phone, etc. in one.
