Apple is preparing to release an updated Mac mini as soon as the coming days, marking the compact desktop’s first refresh in nearly two years, according to Bloomberg News’ Mark Gurman.
The new model could arrive before Apple’s expected September event focused on the next iPhones, Gurman reported, citing people familiar with the matter who asked not to be identified because the plans are not public. The company has tested versions powered by both its M5 and M6 processor generations. The current Mac mini, last updated in 2024 with M4 chips and a significantly smaller design, has seen strong demand partly driven by users running AI applications locally, though supply constraints have led to extended wait times.
Gurman also provided timing details on other upcoming products. Apple is expected to introduce the fifth-generation AirPods (available in both standard and active noise-cancellation versions) at the September event alongside the next iPhones. Camera-equipped AirPods remain on track for a later release, potentially in 2027.
An OLED version of the iPad mini is planned for launch by the end of October, representing a significant upgrade for the compact tablet. Additional Mac updates, including a refreshed iMac with new color options and an entry-level MacBook Pro, are expected further out and are likely to use M6 chips.
