Microsoft takes title of world’s most valuable public company from Apple

Microsoft passed Apple in Friday trading to reclaim the title of the world’s most valuable public company. Microsoft now has a valuation of $2.89 trillion, slightly ahead of the Tim Cook-led Apple at $2.87 trillion.

Eric J. Savitz for Barron’s:

Microsoft has been gradually closing the gap. Over the last 12 months, its shares have rallied 62.9%, versus a 39.4% gain for Apple. So far in 2024, Microsoft shares are 3.3% higher, while Apple is off 3.4%.

Microsoft’s valuation briefly exceeded Apple’s market cap on an intraday basis earlier this week, before falling back. Apple had spent more than 500 days as the stock market’s most valued company. Microsoft last held the top spot on a closing basis in November 2021.

The emergence of the artificial intelligence software boom has been a boost to Microsoft shares… Meanwhile, Apple has seen four consecutive quarters of year-over-year revenue declines…

MacDailyNews Take: With better management, Apple should be worth at least a trillion more than Microsoft currently. But, you can’t achieve those sort of results when you do things like miss transformative technologies like AI because you lack a visionary leader and have to resort to spending and scrambling madly trying to catch up to whatever you’ve blindly missed.

The difference between an operations guy following a static playbook — reacting to events instead of determining them — versus a visionary genius becomes ever more apparent with each passing year.MacDailyNews, March 8, 2023

  1. Hey, at least Apple planted some mangroves in India in Tim Cook’s latest sop to “climate change,” i.e. cover story for a socialist global wealth redistribution scam.

Cook is either too stupid to see the con or he’s in on it.

  2. if this stands, Tim’s days are numbered. Microsoft invested 13 billion in Open A.I. while Tim’s Apple invested in a social justice streaming platform that’s currently in 9th place.

The only problem with Tim’s exit is you can best believe he will DEI a replacement on the way out the door. Such a pity to see apple go from tech leader to tech reactionary follower. But I guess all good things come to an end. As Apple’s influence fades its legacy and memory will live on as a reminder on what true vision can accomplish. A Steve Jobs type visionary would have no place at today’s Apple.

    1. So, you’re saying anytime a minority is picked for a high position, it’s a DEI hire? It can’t be because the minority is the best qualified or best fit for the position?

Do you hear yourself and how incredibly racist that sounds?

      1. Who said his DEI hire would be based on skin color or ethnicity. Apparently you haven’t received your DEI intersectionality Domination/Oppression/Privilege matrix update, because if you had, you would know that ethnicity (“race”) of the candidate is no longer a valid way to determine their intersectionslity equity score. Actually their intersectionality rating can be a negative if it’s a black feminine Female that is “conservative” because it sends the wrong message.

I for one whole heartily would prefer the top qualified candidate regardless of their intersectionality score. My personal belief is the way to end discrimination is to stop discriminating based on anything other them ability to job. My belief is that a young Steve Jobs (heterosexual, young, white, European heritage, Able-bodied, Credential, Attractive, Anglophones, Light pale, Gentile Non-Jew, Fertile, Male) would never be chosen by Tim and the BOD to lead Apple.

So to you I may sound “racist” but to me you sound like a low resolution, ignorant, useful idiot that cry’s “racism” to hide the fact your incredibly clueless, willfully blind or …

FYI : the intersectionality oppression super power at the moment is Gender “deviant” (their term not mine) and LGBTQ. They would much much rather install a white LGGTQ transgender women than a heterosexual “Person of Color” masculine Male or feminine Female. Didn’t you get the update ? “race” isn’t good enough, they moved up domination oppression chart. You need to upgrade your talking points. your so 2016.

but maybe I wrong, looking forward to you helping me identify my mistakes so we can all move forward.

      2. Welcome to the MAGA conservatives/homophobes and ex-Limbaugh cultists frequenting this site. Every day is both shocking and predictable over here. I stay away for long, long periods of time for that very reason. Tough to find clear-eyed journalism and even fandom these days.

        1. Welcome to the HATE MONGER from the INTOLERANT LEFTIST planet, Aussie Auramac.

It’s sad when people who claim to be the most open minded, tolerant and righteous in their virtue — simply cannot HANDLE opinions other than their own — immediately BRAND EVERYTHING RACIST and the worst of humanity.

Snowflake, go back to your safe space you add NOTHING but hateful stereotypes…

    1. LOL! Wow! I assume your’e saying that because they use black and brown people in their advertising and photos. Did it ever occur to you that maybe they do that to contrast their white products against dark skin to show off their products better?

      1. S don’t pretend that Apple dose not do “Oppressor” favored discrimination marketing. Just not in the USA. Apple can “white wash” with the best of them; check out their CCP Chinese marketing campaigns.

so apple makes these videos every year celebrating new years in Asia but they always only celebrate Han Chinese people. There is zero ethic diversity in these apple films. Where is the representation for

        Uyghurs
        Tibetans
        Mongols
        Kazakhs
        Koreans
and the other 51 ethnic minorities living in China
LGBT and Gender “deviant” lifestyle (not a chance)

S I bet you don’t criticize Apple for only marketing/representing Han oppressors ethnic group in China. Educated yourself and see how Apple handles marketing in CCP china. Apple is all for DEI expect when it threatens their ability to make an “insanely great” profit …

here is a sample apple marketing behind the great firewall : zero diversity, not one frame of a LGBT relationship. No men holding hands with men. No women kissing women, only Sis Han Chinese celebration.

Diversity is our strength except in China
