Meta Platforms’s threat to pull Facebook and Instagram from Europe because of blocked talks over privacy rules is being met with enthusiasm from two top German and French ministers.
William Horobin and Zoe Schneeweiss for Bloomberg:
“After being hacked I’ve lived without Facebook and Twitter for four years and life has been fantastic,” German Economy Minister Robert Habeck told reporters at an event alongside French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire in Paris on Monday.
MacDailyNews Take: We concur:
All of these “social media” platforms – Twitter, Parler, Facebook – are cancers on society. They are clearly eating society from the inside out. There’s something unsavory within human nature that “digital distance” amplifies to the point of disgust.
If you quit these cancers you will quickly realize what they are and what they do. You will be happier and healthier to have excised them from your life.
We haven’t had personal Twitter or Facebook accounts for many years now. And very happily so. — MacDailyNews, January 9, 2021
“I can confirm that life is very good without Facebook and that we would live very well without Facebook,” Le Maire added. “Digital giants must understand that the European continent will resist and affirm its sovereignty.”
MacDailyNews Take: Oui!
Facebook is to privacy as Chernobyl is to nuclear power. — MacDailyNews, February 3, 2021
The pair were responding to comments in Meta’s annual report published Thursday, warning that if it couldn’t rely on new or existing agreements to shift data, then it would “likely be unable to offer a number of our most significant products and services, including Facebook and Instagram, in Europe.”
MacDailyNews Take: We love it when people seem to be getting a clue.
If you trust Mark Zuckerberg to be the keeper of your photos, contacts, political views, religious beliefs, etc., you’re batshit insane. — MacDailyNews, May 23, 2018
Zuckerberg: Yeah so if you ever need info about anyone at Harvard
Zuckerberg: Just ask
Zuckerberg: I have over 4,000 emails, pictures, addresses, SSNs
Zuckerberg: People just submitted it.
Zuckerberg: I don’t know why.
Zuckerberg: They “trust me”
Zuckerberg: Dumb fucks

We use FaceBook as an RSS feed. Our CMS automatically reposts our article headlines and links them back to our website. That is our only interaction with Facebook and has been our only interaction with Facebook for years. We deleted our personal accounts [which we opened only so we could understand the Facebook phenomenon] many years ago.
If you want to share photos and videos with friends, text them using Apple’s end-to-end encrypted iMessage service. You need to control your social networking, not cede it to a gatekeeper like Facebook. – MacDailyNews, March 19, 2018
As we’ve said many times: Delete Facebook.

Depends how you use a platform. I like Instagram. It’s used more to show creativity, less for social and political commentary (and people throwing around personal insults). I can stay away from the stuff that makes Twitter a cesspool, when I choose to do so. I wish Instagram was independent of FaceBook and Meta, because I see their influence of one-sided censorship and hypocrisy.
How funny to call this a threat. I would call it a blessing!
as I look in the corner, MDN HAS a facebook account.
Of course they have a Facebook account, MDN is just another social media that can’t discern what an ad hominem attack is, i.e. they are cancer on the face of the Earth but great for finding out the latest TV shows on Apple TV so it can’t be all bad.
Which part of the following did you two insipid morons not understand?

MDN’s inability (as a social media platform) to discern or act upon an ad hominem attack, i.e. a personal attack is something I don’t understand, unless it’s to advance an amazing bias. You wish to challenge ideas fine, but your personal insult to call me an insipid moron over this is just another patriotic demonstration of the depths of what Apple’s home country have become.
Here’s another quote from MDN that you may consider before spewing person insults and attacks to people.
Please keep the discussion civil and on-topic. Off-topic posts and ad hominem attacks will be deleted and those who post such comments will be moderated/blocked. Permanent loss of screen name could also result.
MDN explained the existence of their, basically RSS feed, on Facebook.
Therefore, your comments are both insipid and moronic.
I only deal in brutal truth.
So heroic Brutal…the brutal truth teller. The only truth teller…”I’m here to make it clear for you, as you are unable to do the same.” It maybe hard to understand and assimilate…that’s why I’m here,” he says.
Let us all bow to the One who Knows.
MDN’s existence of their basic RSS feed it indicative of relationship with Facebook, that’s what I pointed out originally.
I see you changed your slant about me being insipid and moronic to my comments being insipid and moronic. That’s much better.
Just remember that when you personally insult or attack me or any poster, you are showing a total disregard for MDN. Perhaps you should go review their TOS…if you can find one
Road Warrior is driving a hard line…frankly one that’s missing and needed.
We are all hypocrites and we don’t see it. We have become very adroit at rationalizing. Brutal’s response perfectly displays.
FB promotes garbage and is a cancer on society. “Even though it’s toxic, I only use it for one thing. I’m not like the rest that use it regularly for staying in touch. Ahem.
Personally speaking, I abhor Apple’s support of the Chinese govt and the ethnic atrocities some in China experience from CCP policies. In-spite of this reality, I buy and use AAPL products. In effect, I’m complicit, “but I only buy a infinitesimal portion of all AAPL sells.” Ahem.
I’m conflicted AND I rationalize.
It’s possible to have a discussion debating ideas without personal insults flying by all the time.
They also have a Parler, Gab, and will undoubtedly be spreading TRUTH as well (for however long that service lasts…)
