Dennis Sellers for Apple World Today:
Apple has filed for another patent (number 10,530,915) regarding the rumored “Apple Glasses.” It involves using an iPhone as the wireless “engine” of the augmented reality head-mounted display.
The idea: The iPhone may be physically coupled to the Apple Glasses such that the portable electronic device can be worn on the user’s head. The smartphone may be operatively coupled to the head-mounted device such that they can communicate and operate with one another. Each device may be allowed to extend its features and/or services to the other device for the purpose of enhancing, increasing and/or eliminating redundant functions between the head-mounted device and the portable electronic device.
MacDailyNews Take: Of course, in order to keep the eyewear as stylish and light as possible, it make sense to not only offload some processing to iPhone, but also be able to use apps, including playing games, that reside on your iPhone on your head-mounted display.
I really hope that whatever they come up with works for people who wear glasses.
It appears to be designed for people who have really strong noses. Why the hell would you want to put a big old heavy iPhone on the bridge of your nose? Why not leave it in your pocket and just send pixels to the glasses?
(I have to admit I didn’t read the patent claims yet, so it could be well that Big-Phone-On-Your-Face is just one embodiment. But it’s still a stupid embodiment.)
Sum Jung Gai, I dont think you read the article… it’s saying it will function exactly as you specify… just a signal communicating screen info to the glasses and letting the phone do the heavy lifting.
I read the article, and it says absolutely nothing about this iteration of the Apple Glasses receiving a signal wirelessly from an iPhone.
No, just looked at the picture. 🙂
Good point MikeMo.
I really hope that whatever they come up with works for people who have eyes
Why stop there let’s hope it works for people without vision at all, there are so many about.
