We continue to hear whispers that a “very big” Apple acquisition looms. If completed, it will be “Apple’s biggest acquisition by far” and most likely occur “sometime in 2020.”
As we reported on April 4, 2019:
A little birdie tells us that “a major Apple acquisition looms,” but that “it’s not yet a done deal.”
If it goes through, however, “people will be shocked.” No further information was given.
We’re unsure if “people will be shocked” at the name of company Apple may acquire, the size of the acquisition, both, and/or something else altogether.

Ain’t gonna be Tesla. Sorry to disappoint but that’s just not realistic even if the company looks affordable for Apple right now. Tesla’s biggest single shareholder (Musk) doesn’t get paid a penny for the decade and a half he’s already been working as a founder, but he does get a $50 billion payout if the company approaches $500 billion in market cap within the next decade. Tesla is currently around $50 billion in total cap, or 10% of that value right now. If Musk thinks he can grow the market cap that much (which he obviously does or he wouldn’t have taken the agreement), there’s no chance he sells the company today and loses that payout opportunity. Aint. Gonna. Happen.
I’d like Apple to purchase Disney or another studio, so they have plenty of content for their own nascent Apple TV+.

Besides Netflix, which is the most obvious of answers, it is clear that Apple will be acquiring me, Citizen X, for my expertise in meeting famous people and boasting about it.
Few can claim to have met Steve Jobs AND managed a store AT THE SAME TIME. My hubris and intelligence doesn’t come cheap, so truth be told, the rumor is 100% about me, as yes, I have the authority to leak this.
Apple desperately needs content for Apple TV+. They have no library
Apple has enough wealth to purchase a city and enough technology run it uniquely as Apple City.
Anyone else’s intrigued by the naming of Disney+ and Apple TV+ ? Coincidence, or ?
Tim Cooke has said many times that when all is said and done that Apple’s biggest contribution will be in the health field. How about some suggestions along those lines? Dexcom? Medical device company?
I think IBM is an interesting possibility, but my guess is something in healthcare, a large, long-term growing market, with some public-good interest … Medtronics?
