How Apple could deliver a Chinese New Year’s surprise

“China Mobile reported last week that it added a whopping 24.8 million new 4G subscriptions in February, a Chinese New Year bump whose biggest beneficiary is likely to be Apple,” Philip Elmer-DeWitt reports for Fortune.

“China Mobile is China’s — and the world’s — largest mobile phone operator, with 830 million subscribers,” P.E.D. reports. “At the end of February, it had 360 million 4G subs, up from 123 million a year earlier.”

P.E.D. reports, “Apple could finish the March quarter, by one estimate, with iPhone sales up 38% year over year.”

  1. well, their bread and butter tends to be doom and gloom for apple related products. the weeping of crocodile tears is their stock in trade

    mine guess is that they are likely spending most of their time fantasizing about the day that the chinese government decides to follow in the footsteps of the dept. of justice here, stateside….

    “give us the backdoor to your phones or else…. like you will not be allowed to sell them in china anymore… or like not only that you can’t even manufacture your products over here anymore….”

    which, come to think of it, might not be such a fantasy after all…. it might even become something more of a possibility or even a reality, a bit further down the road.
