Jim Cramer: Time to buy Apple stock

“Apple is challenging a court ruling that orders the iPhone maker to help the FBI break into an iPhone used by one of the shooters in the San Bernardino terrorist attack,” Rachel Graf reports for TheStreet. “‘I do feel that [Apple CEO] Tim Cook is in a jam here because who wants to aid and abet terrorism?’ TheStreet‘s Jim Cramer said on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street this morning, adding that the FBI will likely argue this is what Cook is doing.”

“‘But he’s talking about a whole different right that his company has basically guaranteed to people, so what’s he going to do, just fold?’ Cramer continued,” Graf reports. “It would be great to know the information on that phone, but mining just one customer’s data would create a ‘slippery slope’ that could ultimately lead to privacy invasions, Cramer noted.”

“‘I do think you really have to go back and say, this stock has been in the dog house for a long time,’ Cramer continued, noting that it’s a cyclical stock now,” Graf reports. “Cramer has continually told investors to own Apple shares. Now, he thinks it’s time to buy.”

  1. Oh yes …
I trust my gov’t to hold the keys
    to my privacy ! ..

Oh yeah… they’re only for “benign” reasons … and I know that MU gov’t
really doesn’t want to snoop on me …
(They have Facebook for that) …

So, yeah… just like I love those “Orwellian” cameras at stop-lights..
I really want my gov’t to have access
    to my private life …

Now .. could someone please remind me what that famous quote from ‘ole Ben Franklin was, again ?

    1. Trading user data, decline in OS quality, lack of real innovation while being the richest company ever?

The reason people are selling AAPL might be also they do not believe in a bend over CEO.

    2. The thrill is gone.
Artificial prolonguement of an innovative decade.
The guy who runs Apple is not even aware of the real values of Apple when he plays a privacy crusader.
Once reliable and secure, Apple today has become the shame of the nation.

I am supposed to ask you: Are you mental Jim?

  2. The Gubbermint has misused, abused, and engaged in some of the most OUTRAGEOUS illegal conduct over the last 10 years to wit— NSA, DEA, FBI, IRS, Lerner, Attkinson, DOJ, Tea Party supression etc etc etc……….

Their unrepentant, unabated conduct has now earned them the universal “Hell NO” response……..you know that if the tech industry crumbles then the “me-too” BS will start unabated….Never mind the Chinese, Russians, and assorted other 3-4th world dictators, despots, and mutants….!!!!

Encryption and “burner phones” have been around for YEARS!!

And for the TSA–“it’s for our safety” crowd I say BS.

Feds get off your azzzzzzzzzzzz and go recruit sources/informants and metadata sources; get out of the office and away from your desktop….

Use your GS-1811 taxpayer provided G-car for something other than stopping for groceries on the way home or dropping kids at school…..

  3. I think it depends on why you’re buying Apple stock. Because the price is low, if you’re interested in getting dividends, then it’s OK. However, for anyone expecting some significant share gains, it’s definitely a poor play. Any of the F.A.N.G. stocks will give you far better gains. In fact, any other tech stock will give you better gains than Apple. Microsoft is going to make Apple look stupid in terms of share gains this year. Apple will forever be involved in all sorts of negative crap that will be very bad for shareholders expecting gains. Apple’s reputation and credibility has been ruined beyond repair for small investors. Apple’s making plenty of money and only a tiny amount is going to shareholders. The big investors wouldn’t touch the stock with a ten-foot pole.

    1. We Polish people can be tall, I agree. But a ten foot Pole, i have yet to see. Everything else you say is dull bullshit.
There is a great song called ‘What a fool believes’. It was written for you, eh?

    2. Can you state why you say wht you say…rather than just state them as facts..?

Here is a one of my post from a couple of days ago ……..
IIt it a surprise it a value stock ?
Pe of 10…. Excash aprox pe 6…….

Just correct the PE to a ressonable level( lets say 15ish ) for a complany that prints 18 billion in net profts per quarter and the 30% is back on.
Just fix the narrative Apple PR… Ofcourse when you wake up.. We dont want to disturb your sleep. Sigh…

excluding growth …and Just maintaining the current level of cash generation…… At pe of 10, in a few years apples cash hoard will surpass its market cap. ….
But apple has huge potential for growth…add that on top… If the execute properly.

  4. Government can search my home with the proper court order. The most privet place to me .
Government can tap my land line with court order. And has for decades with proper court order.

This is not an either or case …… Its way more complex and consequential to just leave it in hands of dogmatic idealism .

Creat the proper provisions and everyone wins.

Times changes… so should we… … Thats fundimental to survival.

In the meanwhile apple is loving the Publicity .. 😉

    1. Plus those who choose to score me low… All good..
Can you state which part of what i claimed government can do now is false?
And which part of my post is so false disagreeable to u..?

…this is sad . ..To see so many subject do dogma …

  5. Terrorists must be free to do their work, it’s their human right. Think about that next time there’s a 9/11 that could have been prevented. What’s a few thousand lives compared to keeping your address book secret?

  6. as I wrote yesterday :

criminals can buy third party encryption devices and software. It’s the general public who is vulnerable.

Terrorists are generally very well informed and trained, if they figure govts. can crack their phones they will just install third party encryption software. Meanwhile hundreds of millions of blissfully unaware phone users would be vulnerable to criminal hackers.

if Apple and the authorities can break into the phone so can criminals.

are you willing to lack hackers (who are getting smarter every year, many of whom were trained by sophisticated foreign government programs) get access to your info as well which will happen if a backdoor exists.( do you realize foreign governments and independent hackers are continually trying to hack the countries infrastructure? Banks, government departments say nearly every week there’s an attempt to hack into their systems. Foreign governments do it to prepare protocols for war — i.e in war they will try to bring the infrastructure down. So there are thousands of well trained hackers out there who might have left govt. service besides the independent ones all looking for an opening to get at your stuff ).

Are you willing to let your bank, credit including your retirement investments (funds, 401 k) etc be vulnerable. You can have your entire life wiped out. Multiply these with hundreds of millions of vulnerable iPhone users.

what if every foreign country like Russia also wants access to the ‘backdoor’ ?

The Snowden leaks showed that the USA government had hacked into the German government, and even tapped the Chancellor of Germany’s phone…

Remember when those CELEBRITIES got their Apple iCloud accounts hacked — compromising photos leaked — did anybody — politicians , FBI ETC PRAISE APPLE for weak defences ? Nope everybody, including the security services attacked Apple for having WEAK protocols. when the shit hits the fan NOBODY will take responsibility , just watch.

ALSO SUPPOSED SOMEONE HACKS INTO YOUR PHONE AND GETS DETAILS OF YOUR DAUGHTER’S SCHEDULE and PHOTO and then uses the ELECTRONIC PASSKEY he’s stolen from your phone to OPEN YOUR FRONT DOOR and THEN KIDNAPS HER ? will Apple be liable?

    1. None of my hacker friends believes for a second that any US government agency has the technological wherewithal to contain the situation once the genie is out of the bottle. Added to the horror, we see naked Washington DC power politics at their most blatant and crass level of self-serving, short-sighted bullying behaviour. They are attempting direct psychological manipulation of the electorate using craven and compliant news services. It’s despicable, and makes China’s socialistic decrees look benign by comparison.
