Oppenheimer sees major boost for Cirrus Logic in Apple’s iPhone 7; CRUS stock soars 16%

“Shares of chip maker Cirrus Logic (CRUS), a prominent supplier to Apple (AAPL), are up $4.43, or 16%, at $32.39,” Tiernan Ray reports for Barron’s.

“The stock has gotten one upgrade today, that I can see, from Oppenheimer & Co.’s Rick Schafer, who raised his rating to Outperform from “Perform,” with a price target of $40, writing that the company’s ‘content story is too compelling to ignore,'” Ray reports. “What he means in particular is the company gaining a substantial boost in share of parts sold into what is presumably the next iPhone, the iPhone 7.”

We believe CRUS has secured a smart codec enabling active noise cancellation in AAPL’s earbuds for the IP7. CRUS saw its content in the IP6s jump ~60% to $3.50 vs the IP6. We estimate the additional smart codec socket could raise CRUS’ ASP by $2+ to ~$5.50 in the IP7 [iPhone 7]. Additionally, we believe AAPL likely includes the earbuds as an “in-box” feature. — Oppenheimer & Co. analyst Rick Schafer

  1. I find it ironic that even as investors are fleeing from AAPL, they are more than happy to prop up any company that is involved or even rumored to be involved with Apple.

Honestly, if Apple is “doomed” how is getting business from them a positive?

  2. I have Sony devices with the noise cancelling built into the device. Just plug in compatible headphones and you are good to go.
Beats having a giant box built into the cable to power the device.

  3. Soars 16% on rumor for supplying new iPhone 7 part….That’s the same iPhone that sold in record numbers that disapointed the annalists and wall st. And tanked AAPL right ???🙃🙃🙃

  4. I’m sure the SEC is on to this one. I mean, nothing gets by these people, right? they’re goddam professionals!
