Here’s how much RAM is inside Apple’s iPhone 6s/Plus, iPad Pro and new Apple TV

“There are two things that Apple will never tell you when it comes to its iOS devices, and that’s how much memory an iPhone or iPad has, and what size the batteries are,” Chris Smith reports for BGR. “This year Apple significantly upgraded RAM for iPhone 6s, iPad Pro and Apple TV, and many reports can confirm these details well ahead of future teardown jobs.”

“2GB of RAM,” Smith reports. “That’s how much the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus and Apple TV 4th-generation are getting this year.”

“Apple enthusiast John Gruber wrote on his site that he believes the new iPad Pro has to have 4GB of RAM. “If we were to wager on the amount of RAM in iPad Pro, my bet would be 4GB. And I would wager very heavily,” he said, and he’d win that wager, Adobe seems to indicate,” Smith reports. “In a blog post announcing the new iPad Pro apps Adobe unveiled on stage during the iPhone 6s event, the company clearly mentioned that the new tablet has 4GB of RAM on board.”

  1. Didn’t think I’d be tempted by an iPad again, but the Pro is super sweet. Including the stylus is, I think, consistent with Mr. Jobs’s wish that his management team isn’t basing their decisions on what he would do. They saw a need for a specific functionality that adds value and went forward. Cheers to them for adapting and moving on.

    1. Steve Jobs poo pooed and ridiculed video on the iPod – it happened, jobs po pooed electronic books and readers “nobody reads books anymore…”- it happened.

      He always threw curve balls.

  2. This is another of those confounding Apple attitudes that has gone on for years and that I never understand.

WHY does Apple deliberately HIDE the amount of RAM in iOS devices?

RAM is dirt cheap these days. Doubling the RAM in all iOS devices would be cheap AND would speed them up even further. WHAT is Apple’s problem with RAM???

    1. There are a few real world tests that show that extra RAM improves performance in some of those unrealistic tests but in the real world, extra RAM only makes a tiny amount of difference. Check your ‘facts’.

      1. Rubbish. Check your ‘facts’. We’re looking at the iPad Pro as a video, 3D graphics and image editing device, far beyond anything a mere iPhone. (Although some nice professional video work has been done on an iPhone 5S). The applications devour RAM and also devour virtual memory (aka SSD memory space). Watch future users demand that Apple increase the installed RAM on the iPad Pro. I predict.

  3. upped the RAM.

Certainly makes sense to do that.

but why not up the minimum RAM/Storage from 16Gb to 32Gb? and not increase the price of the entry level iPad.

Apple always seems to cheap out on RAM and storage. I have a MacBook Air and why they make the RAM not upgradeable I don’t understand. The profit margins are very comfortable. A little bit more RAM/Storage would be a great thing to do.
