The Apple Watch is at its best while traveling

“There is no denying that the Apple Watch has had a dramatic impact on the daily lives of early adopters,” Kraig Becker writes for Apple Gazette. “Not only does it conveniently put notifications, emails, and text messages right on our wrists, it is also is a great fitness tracker, a wonderful way to navigate around town, and is a solid speakerphone. It even acts as a remote control for your Apple TV. But the wearable device may be at its best when traveling, which is when some of its feature truly start to shine.”

“Since purchasing my Apple Watch last month, I’ve had the opportunity to travel with it on several occasions. This has given me the chance to evaluate just how well it performs while out on the road,” Becker reports. “During that time, I discovered that a number of the Watch’s core features really are very handy to have with you when navigating airports, driving rentals cars, and staying in hotels.”

MacDailyNews Take: Becker certainly has a point. Currently the mix of apps and the current lack of third-party native apps (a situation thats soon to change with watchOS 2), makes Apple Watch even more valuable while on the road. But, boy, it’s certainly sublime to simply recline on the couch controlling your Apple TV via your Apple Watch. It’s at least as good as quickly replying to a message while in the airport running to the next gate.

  1. I love even the simple functions on my Apple Watch and have yet to completely explore all it can do. I find it hard to switch off the delightful animated Mickey face and go to the more utility oriented ones.

Apple Watch has barely begun and barely scratched the surface of what it will be!

  2. I use mine when driving with Maps. The subtle taps on my wrist to tell me a direction change is coming up means I can turn of the audio directions and have my music pumping, even if I have no idea where I’m going! 😊

It’s a wonderful device, wouldn’t be without mine now.

  3. It is great travelling until you have to take it off to go thru screening and then have to get it on and working again while the conveyor belt piles up and you also have to get you shoes , belt , coat , bag , laptop……
( Not a criticism of Apple watch obviously)

    1. I travelled through 8 international airports, a couple of weeks ago with my stainless Apple Watch with linked stainless band and did not have to take the watch off even once.

    2. I’m giving you 5 stars because, as you pointed out, you aren’t criticizing the watch, but rather the insane security theater we are forced to go through. We spend massive amounts of money on the process and lose so much productivity just to foster an atmosphere of fear. Ugh.
