Even in South Korea, Samsung sees weak response to the Galaxy S6

We’ve had more customers come in thanks to the Galaxy S6, but no one has bought it yet. We have plenty of phones in stock, but we’re only allowed to carry 10 of the Galaxy S6 Edge Gold.

If it were me, I’d buy the iPhone 6. The Galaxy S6 battery runs out quickly, and you also have to pay extra for the wireless charging pad.

“At the mobile phone shops in Seoul’s Yeongdeungpo district that a Hankyoreh reporter visited on Apr. 16, shopkeepers recommended Apple’s iPhone 6 over Samsung Electronics’ Galaxy S6,” Lee Jeong-hoon reports for The Hankyoreh. “Outside all of the stores, posters were up announcing that the Galaxy S6 was in stock. Inside the stores, though, shopkeepers admitted that customers were just not that interested.”

“One week since the Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge were launched, the initial market response has been tepid. ‘The response is better than with the Galaxy S5, but it’s not as strong as the iPhone 6,” said a source at one telecom,” Lee reports. “A representative at Samsung Electronics had little to say. ‘The market response is better than the previous product [Galaxy S5], but we are watching the market carefully.'”

MacDailyNews Take: Smirk.

We’d expect some comments from Galaxy S6 sufferers, but their batteries all died four hours ago. Silly wall-huggers, get a real iPhone!

    1. Dan Sung better get busy, because his brother Sam needs something else to copy. How about setting up exclusive appointments to show folks how to use the S6?

  1. A better response than the S5? You mean the phone that some carriers were offering a buy-one-get-one-free the very first day it was available? Better response than a phone you had to give away to get people to take it?

That’s like saying the response in favor of germ warfare is more positive than the response in favor of all out thermonuclear war. You really don’t want either on in your life.

    1. The summary said it all: “… posters were up announcing that the Galaxy S6 was in stock. Inside the stores, though, shopkeepers admitted that customers were just not that interested.”

If you can’t sell your product in your own home country … well, …

  2. A lot of people will have been put off by the S5, which was a cheesy plastic piece of garbage that started deteriorating after just 6 months or so of use (if the wife’s is anything to go by). Even if the S6 is miles better they’ll have to re-win the disaffected.
