Open thread: Did you get your Apple Watch preorder placed?

Apple Watch preorders began at 12:01am PDT on April 10th.

We got our orders in (Apple Watch Sport models in 42mm Silver) by 12:03am (shipping date “Delivers 4/24-5/8”) using the Apple Store app on iPad (favorited). Our preferred Apple Watch combination wasn’t among the preorder configs (42mm Sport with Silver Case with 42mm Black Sport Band), so Apple got us for an extra $49 per Watch (we ordered our stock launch combination with the White Sport Bands, which will never get used).

We are already getting reports that some Apple Watch models (42mm Apple Watch Sport Space Gray with 42mm Black Sport Band, for one – an Apple preorder config.) have sold out, with shipping slipping into 4-6 weeks territory (late May) a mere ten minutes after pre-orders began.

So, did you get your Apple Watch preorder(s) placed?

  1. Yes we did, but being in China I suspect it’s a scam, credit card was charged and we got SMS notification, but that’s it, no other confirmation. It’s a good way to save 2500USD though, because my wife works for the bank, money is not lost, only the watches. She is also a “bad bell” that will literally let the whole China know if something doesn’t work as advertised. Perks of being high up in government relations.

    1. The bad bell called Apple, delivery date after 5.13, order confirmation page got updated 24 hours after the order. I think the Chinese system is isolated from the international Apple Store and they need to enter everything by hand to the real Apple store.

The rumour is now that Apple sold 500000-1 million Apple Watches per minute for the first half an hour. That would make over 20 million AW’s sold. I’m now very curious what Apple will say what the whole weekend total is.

Today’s Shenzhen Electronics Expo had bunch of smart watches, but the sales guys were already saying they can’t even compete with price, 2600-3000rmb for Apple Watch which actually works and has tons of software, is more attractive than one that barely works, is made of plastic and looks like a cheap fake watch.

  2. ordered mine at about 3:04 EDT – just like the lead here, ordered the Sport with white band and an additional black sport band. Delivers 4/24-5/8. Band coming April 29-May 10, so I may have to wear that white band for awhile. Curious though- I really wanted to pick mine up in the store, but it told me that option was not available.

  3. I had “favorited” the one that I wanted last week so it was right there wen the store came online through the app at around 1:03am MDT.

Stainless steel 42mm with stainless steel (“silver”) band. Availability was 4-6 weeks while all others (except the black stainless steel band) were April 24-May 8 at the time. Hopefully it comes a little sooner. I could have had a first shipment one in a sport band model, but wanted the steel band.

It was very quick through the app once going back and forth thru a couple models and then eventually pulling the trigger on the one I had favorited.

  4. Yes. Ordered two 42″ stainless steel watches, one with white sport band and the other with Milanese loop. Ordered 2:04 & 2:05 am CST. Ships 4/24-5/8.

  5. Ordered one for my wife at 0545hrs EST. 38mm Sport White band – simplest pre-order I have ever done with Apple. Only “issue” is “Delivery – June”. I hope it gets delivered sooner, but if it is pushed that far out, I hope that means a much higher demand than most naysayers were thinking (and hopefully that will be represented in my stock).

I am holding out on my – Want the 42mm Space Gray (Either Sport or Stainless, but can’t justify the $600 difference). I want to see how her 38mm looks to see if the 42mm is to big or just right for me.

    1. I agree. I think by far this is the poorest product launch by Apple ever. The reason they sold out so fast is because they just didn’t make enough. It’s like they just wanted to test the waters by getting pre orders and then make them?. So NO stock in Apple stores until June or July? You can go see it, you just can’t buy one and take it home? I would like to know just how many people will actually have a watch on the 24th. Love Apple, totally disappointed in this product launch. Terrible!

  6. Here in Australia – after visiting the Apple Store in Chadstone to try on various models before pre-order “launch”, I ordered a Sports Space Grey 42mm with black band (4-6 weeks), and Stainless Steel 42mm with black sports band (24/04-08/05). Just to be sure…

  7. I got a silver sport model with blue band (blah!! Why wasn’t black available for the silver models?) at 3:03 AM EDT on my iPad Apple Store app. Shipping 4/24 – 5/8, which appears to be as early as they ship. Fingers crossed it’ll get here the 24th!

  8. Rather pissed. By 12:02 AM all 5 of the models I would have bought were already 4-6 weeks. Ended up with 42 mm space grey/black and 42″ stainless steel. Received email confirmation at 12:04. AM.

Glad I got two but not happy I have to wait 4-6 weeks

  9. Yes I I did! Got it in at 12:05 then shipping slipped to 4-6 weeks in minutes. Stainless with mesh strap. The $$17.000 gold went to August within 20 minutes.
Every analyst will rue the day…so much for spreadsheets, inaccurate polls and jaded opinions. They all look like Motley Fool’s who predicted a flop.
