Apple Watch preorders began at 12:01am PDT on April 10th.
We got our orders in (Apple Watch Sport models in 42mm Silver) by 12:03am (shipping date “Delivers 4/24-5/8”) using the Apple Store app on iPad (favorited). Our preferred Apple Watch combination wasn’t among the preorder configs (42mm Sport with Silver Case with 42mm Black Sport Band), so Apple got us for an extra $49 per Watch (we ordered our stock launch combination with the White Sport Bands, which will never get used).
We are already getting reports that some Apple Watch models (42mm Apple Watch Sport Space Gray with 42mm Black Sport Band, for one – an Apple preorder config.) have sold out, with shipping slipping into 4-6 weeks territory (late May) a mere ten minutes after pre-orders began.

Sad but true, but then I was also ordering something else – the new MacBook with it. Sadly my Watch ship date is sometime in June (gold 1.2Ghz 512Gb MacBook in another 3-4 weeks) but we all know Apple can also give later dates than actually occur, so then they can look like heroes!
But I don’t mind. I just wanted to be in on the first wave and I managed that. We are all tech-lusting geeks, but I don’t need the instant gratification as much as some. Yet anyway…
The longest wait time (“Available to ship” date) that I could find, at the time of this post, was “July.” Interestingly, they were for the most expensive steel watch model (the black one with black link bracelet) and some for the gold Edition models. That probably means the expensive models are selling better than Apple expected.
(The most readily available seem to be the steel models with less expensive bands.)

I figured when i’m able to look at them in a store and buy it there if i want, i’ll check it out.

You realize you can actually return things back to the store if you don’t want/like it.
It’s called a return policy.
Apple Watch is only available for purchase exclusively online. You will not be able to purchase one in a store at all. At least not until Apple changes their publicly displayed policy that’s printed all over their website.

I ordered 42mm Sport with White band at 08:02 in the U.K this morning. 24/4 – 8/5 delivery window 🙂 went to 4-6 week delivery @ 1 minute after I got my confirmation email.
Was gonna go Space Grey Sport but it switched to 4-6 week delivery within @ 20 seconds of being viewed 🙁 so went with the above second choice.

yup…IOS apple store got through at 12:09 for us. Black sport 38 & 42…4-6 weeks delivery (May13-27). By the way, I had to hunt around to find bands but they were there. Black adjustable leather band was $150- yipes! I think I’ll wait to try them on first!

That was the same delivery timeframe for me – same watch. I ordered at 3:03 AM EST. I was hoping for an earlier delivery date. As in the past, maybe Apple will be able to move up delivery dates when they get everything rolling.
I was given the same delivery envelope as well: 4-6 weeks (May 13-27), for the same Space Grey Sport 42mm model. 🙁 That version seemed to go backordered the quickest!

I was terribly stressed out! And at one point, my Amex security code didn’t go through and I thought I was dammed! But it worked finally, and got mine shipping between 4/24 – 5/8!

I had the same problem with my Amex security code! I got started with my order 42 stainless steel white sport band at 3:03 eastern time which had a delivery of April 24. By the time it finally accepted the code, shipping was 5/16-5/24. At least I will get the watch for $100 less than Apple is charging me, because I have a promotional period with Amex to spend $500 in 1st 3 months get $100 back. So I can smile about that!

I’m on the phone now with AppleCare because there doesn’t seem to be any way to pick a band to go with the watch. It simply defaults to the small version of the band. I need the large. I chatted with the chat person (bot?) on the site, and was informed I need to call AppleCare to get the correct band. Still on hold now after 15 minutes.
Which watch? You realize only certain watches have band sizes, and only the 42mm come in either one size or a combo of medium/large. Apple Care isn’t the right group to talk to. You’re wasting your time, and you’ll wait on hold for 8 hours I’m sure. Then they’ll tell you the same thing I just did.
Got it taken care of. Apparently both size bands come in the box, or so says the AppleCare person. Only took an hour to be certain, but I ordered the watch in the first few minutes.

Yep, I got two – a Sportgray 42mm with black band for me, and a Sport 42mm with white band for my Mom (it will replace her medic alert necklace – which costs $300 for hardware and $20/month subscription – a big savings getting rid of that for the AWatch). Now she can just call 911 from her wrist if she has a problem, and I bet there will be an app for that soon as well.
My order for a 42mm SS w/link bracelet posted at 12:07, with a delivery window of 4-6 weeks (May 13-27). I ordered an accessory bracelet 18 minutes later and the order number had already climbed by 33 million, so Apple’s servers were really cooking tonight!

Yes we did, but being in China I suspect it’s a scam, credit card was charged and we got SMS notification, but that’s it, no other confirmation. It’s a good way to save 2500USD though, because my wife works for the bank, money is not lost, only the watches. She is also a “bad bell” that will literally let the whole China know if something doesn’t work as advertised. Perks of being high up in government relations.
The bad bell called Apple, delivery date after 5.13, order confirmation page got updated 24 hours after the order. I think the Chinese system is isolated from the international Apple Store and they need to enter everything by hand to the real Apple store.
The rumour is now that Apple sold 500000-1 million Apple Watches per minute for the first half an hour. That would make over 20 million AW’s sold. I’m now very curious what Apple will say what the whole weekend total is.
Today’s Shenzhen Electronics Expo had bunch of smart watches, but the sales guys were already saying they can’t even compete with price, 2600-3000rmb for Apple Watch which actually works and has tons of software, is more attractive than one that barely works, is made of plastic and looks like a cheap fake watch.

Ordered one for my wife at 0545hrs EST. 38mm Sport White band – simplest pre-order I have ever done with Apple. Only “issue” is “Delivery – June”. I hope it gets delivered sooner, but if it is pushed that far out, I hope that means a much higher demand than most naysayers were thinking (and hopefully that will be represented in my stock).
I am holding out on my – Want the 42mm Space Gray (Either Sport or Stainless, but can’t justify the $600 difference). I want to see how her 38mm looks to see if the 42mm is to big or just right for me.

I agree. I think by far this is the poorest product launch by Apple ever. The reason they sold out so fast is because they just didn’t make enough. It’s like they just wanted to test the waters by getting pre orders and then make them?. So NO stock in Apple stores until June or July? You can go see it, you just can’t buy one and take it home? Ordered a Sport 42mm with black band, and delivery is cited as just “June”. Whoa…either Apple has a serious shortage or a serious hit on their hands. I’m guessing the latter, because they’ve certainly had enough time to build up an inventory.

My confirmation email came at 2:05 am and states 4-6 weeks delivery-May 13 – May 27. I also ordered a black sport band and that arrives Apr 29 – May 12. At least I’ll have something to hold on to.
