Leaked ‘iPhone 6C’ rear shell lends further credence to rumors of new 4-inch model

“Some new photos posted by Future Supplier claim to show the leaked rear casing to the rumored ‘iPhone 6C,'” Mike Beasley reports for 9to5Mac.

“Recent reports have said that the device will sport a 4-inch screen like that of the iPhone 5, 5C, and 5S, allowing it to appeal to those who prefer smaller displays over the larger iPhone 6 and 6 Plus,” Beasley reports. “While the veracity of these shots has not been confirmed, there are some interesting details to note that could give us some more clues about the design of the rumored device.”

“There are a few notable differences between the purported iPhone 6C and the iPhone 5C provided for comparison,” Beasley reports. “The cutout for the camera flash on the 6C is elongated, unlike the round one found on the iPhone 5C and current iPhone models. The elongated shape goes back to the introduction of the True Tone flash in the iPhone 5S.”

MacDailyNews Take: Bring it on! If true, Apple is following their well-known game plan and looking to maximize the economies of scale and existing manufacturing capacities to satisfy iPhone users and the company’s margins alike.

  1. Agreed, MDN. Apple’s 6 and 6 Plus models releases were a strategic decision. Since they still have the manufacturing equipment and materials in place for the smaller form factor, why not produce a relatively smaller run for those customers that still prefer the smaller form factor? After all, Apple still produced the iPhone 4 for certain budget markets like India up until recently.

    1. An iPhone 6c – being merely a smaller version would be nice based on the Design of 6 and 6 plus.

But its agreed, Please Apple, do not make the multi-coloured plastic/fiber glass casing like the iPhone 5c were.

  2. If it is indeed plastic, lets hope they have a black version for the C lineup this time around. I found none of the pastel colors appealing really. Darken the hues, like was done with the CRT iMacs from what I remember.

    1. “Plastic” is a word that describes a tremendously wide range of materials. I have a pocket knife that I bought many years ago with a handle made of glass filled nylon. It bounced around in my pocket with my keys for six or seven years before I lost it. Naturally when I replaced it I found my old knife about two weeks later. The only way I could tell the two apart was by the wear on the metal parts.

Apple has been addicted to aluminum for far too long and I for one would welcome a move to other materials like high strength plastics, composite materials, laminates like Micarta, G-10, or high strength ceramics. Aluminum is too ductile and scratch prone.

  3. How about a 6s, with blazing speed, top of the line performance and battery life, but with the 4s or 5 form factor? Charge say, $50 less than the equivalent 6. Apple would sell a ton of them at 2X the profit margin. Why does the smaller unit have to be their “budget” device? A significant portion of the population would like a smaller non-head sized phone. If I could gut my 4s and replace it with my iPhone 6 parts, I would. I don’t get it…. This is win-win. There’s NO competition for this size market anymore, but clearly a demand.
