Why Tim Cook would want to build an Apple Car

“Could Apple build its own car? Without a doubt,” Chris Maxcer writes for TechNewsWorld. “The question is, would Apple want to?”

Apple CEO “Cook has been saying for years — in various ways — that Apple chooses to build products that delight and impact people’s lives,” Maxcer writes. “When you pair that straightforward goal with Cook’s apparent passion for a more environmentally friendly Apple — case in point, the recent $850 million investment in solar energy to power Apple’s operations in California — the notion of building an electric car starts to fit into Cook’s Apple.”

“Not only do cars have massive room for improvement around design, simplicity, and efficiency, there is also great room for user-based improvements,” Maxcer writes. “A car represents a starting point for a very worthy challenge for Apple. Could Apple make cars safer? More energy-efficient? Quite possibly.”

  1. I watched the video about Google’s self driving car and I can only say that I would never get into a car I could not steer and control myself if I wanted, or had, to do so. Not even if it was made by Apple.

  2. I can’t believe how much time and energy is being wasted on this rumor. Putting aside the amount of legal and regulatory nonsense that Apple would have to put up with, there are countless reasons why Apple won’t make an actual car. Will they design some components? Sure. A whole car? No. If you need further explanation, too bad, figure it out.

  3. What tech is Apple’s best in class? Batteries! No one can touch them. What are they building all over the country? Alternative energy. Why would they be testing mini-Vans? More people drive them than 80,000 dollar cars. Tesla has no mass market, likely never will. What hasn’t Tesla been able to build out? Infrastructure. Why does Apple keep using Samsung for parts? They make good parts. Does Apple build anything that doesn’t work with everything they already build? No. Why would they build a car? Why not build some of every car? It’s the same with a TV. Sorry Gene.

  4. The crown jewel of Apple is their innovation and development process. More than likely this can be applied to more than just electronics.

Sounds farfetched, but I would not bet against an improve mode of transportation. (notice I did not say CAR) Remembering Henry Ford’s comment on what the public wanted regarding transportation….. a faster horse.

  5. Steve Jobs advice to Google founders (Brin or Page, I dont care) was that they were doing too many things, His advice will hold hold good to apple today. They are faltering on their existing products and trying too many things. Wise thing would be to improve on the exisitng products. But it is a wasted effort to try to knock sense into Apple nowadays as they have a gazillion dollars to throw around.

So he can orphan it like the ATV and the iPad Mini.
He should think of more important things like a Microsoft Surface 3 Killer. I am a long time Apple fan since they worked out of the garage. And I want the surface 3. The only thing that is holding me back is Windoze 8. When 10 comes and it proves to be what the prerelease says it is, I am going for it. I have the prerelease installed on my Mac in Parallels and it is good like XP and 7. The processor is out there for Apple to make it and I know for a fact they can do this better than the surface 3. They also need to make a quick move with the ATV. When it was a “hobby” it was number one. Now since they put it in as a product it dropped down to 4th. They should forget about making content as a priority and just upgrade it to a more powerful device and open it up to developers via a SDK to play games, the content will follow later. Like it did with the Xbox. That was the only thing that Balmer got right. So you mean to tell me that a complete idiot like Balmer out done a smarter guy like Tim in that department? I do not believe it!!!
