“Hours after Apple CEO Tim Cook publicly addressed his sexuality for the first time, a St Petersburg politician has called for him to be banned from Russia,” Kashmira Gander reports for The Independent.
“According to a translation by Buzzfeed, anti-LGBT campaigner Vitaly Milonov, a member of the Legislative Assembly of St Petersburg, drew on stereotypes of homosexuals to suggest Tim Cook could bring ‘Aids and gonorrhea’ to Russia,” Gander reports. “He told the FlashNord website: ‘what could he [Cook] bring us? The Ebola virus, Aids, gonorrhea? They all have unseemly ties over there. Ban him for life.'”
Gander reports, “Milonov is well-known for his opposition to LGBT rights, and was the architect of a local law which became the basis for an internationally condemned country-wide ban on ‘gay propaganda.'”

Who gives a shit about what a Russian politician says about anything. I am suprised that MDN published this article.
You know, the funny thing is there are probably more gay people in Russia that the U.S. They just have to stay deep in the closet for fear of their lives. And Russian politicians are in denial. And most likely, more than a few are gay.

Religion has and will always tend in the aggregate (some sects may vary) to be repressive of sexuality of any kind. And they will quote verse and text ad nauseum to support their bigotry.
Which is why scriptures are simply irrelevant; because they can be used to prove ANY viewpoint, they cannot possibly be authoritative.
Vitaly Milonov is very obviously gay himself. When he finally does come out of the closet, I wonder if he’ll leave the country.
The vitriol he continually shows goes beyond self-hatred. It’s almost like he’s using it as a deflection for something worse.

If I were a Russian politician I’d be more worried about the extent of the ‘straight’ pedophile problem in the country and the way it helps to contribute to a devalued and degraded female population, but what do I know?
