“Apple notified us of a new self-service portal to add or edit local business listings: Apple Maps Connect,” Greg Sterling reports for Search Engine Land.
“It’s intended for small business owners or their authorized representatives (though not agencies) to be able to quickly and easily add content directly into Apple Maps,” Sterling reports. “The service is free and the listings (or corrected listings) appear on Apple Maps… All users sign in with their Apple IDs and passwords.”
“Verification is in real time. Users receive an automated call with a code that’s entered into the Maps Connect site,” Sterling reports. “Businesses can also verify later or, I was told, using an email address that’s the same as its website URL.”

Just signed up. doesn’t allow a choice for “Open Hours”
as “by appointment only”. Mine is a full time business, but that’s how I work since I’m a one-man show. Awkward.
So, essentially you’re open 24/7 then?
Or do you have reasonable limits on when people can make appointments?
I am a photographer. (I also teach photography part-time at the university level.). Much of my work is outside my studio, on location. I have done assignments at every hour of the day or night as required, but usually during regular business hours.
“By appointment only” means call to arrange a time – if you just stop by my studio I may or may not be there. My customers seem to prefer this as I will arrange portraits or any other type of photography outside of “regular business hours” at their and my convenience.
In my area there are many other professionals who operate in the same way.
You’ve never heard of this? It’s hardly a new concept.
So write up a bug at bugreport.apple.com
It’s not actually a bug per se; more of an omission. I did use the site’s “contact us” form to suggest the addition of “by appointment only”.
I believe the bug report system lets you categorize something as a “feature request” (or equivalent), so that may still be the better and more trackable option.
Thanks bug and InquisitiveEngineer.
I’ll check that out.
Wow. Just got this email from Apple:
“Please include the line below in follow-up emails for this request.
Follow-up: ——
Hello —-,
Thank you for the feature request. We have forwarded it to the proper internal team.
Thanks again,
– Maps Connect Team”
One more reason why I use Apple gear.
It correctly lists Samsung HQ as being contained within the confines of an industrial cesspit.
Tried to add my business. Limited to the United States. Lame.
I’m sure they will expand it as they work out all of the kinks.
Is the Apple Maps Connect service only currently available in the US for posting of data? Cannot seem to use it is the UK. Thanks
The Map doesn’t render for me in any of my browsers. Unsurprising, given Apple Maps’s reputation.
