It’s official, Apple confirms October 16th special event: ‘It’s been way too long’

It’s official: Apple’s invitation to media outlets has confirmed they will be holding a special media event on Thursday, October 16, 2014.

No word, yet, on whether Apple will attempt a live streaming broadcast of the event. If so, hopefully, it’ll go better than their last attempt.

Rumors and speculation call for new iPads, including a svelte new A8-powered iPad Air with Touch ID, and new Macs, including the possibility of a new 27-inch iMac with Retina display and maybe even a new Mac mini.

Also expected is the public release of OS X Yosemite, so we all finally get some Continuity into our lives between our Macs and iPhones, iPad, and iPod touches.

And, as always, the possibility of “one more thing” looms.

MacDailyNews will offer live notes that day starting at 10am PDT/1pm EDT. Check our home page that day for the article link!

  1. “And, as always, the possibility of ‘one more thing’ looms.”

With Tim Cook? No way! NFW!

Here is a Tim Cook “one more thing”:
Tim Cook: “Oh, one more thing! We’ve increased the speed of the Mac Mini from 2.3 to 2.4 GHz.”

    1. Actually, no: Tim has played the “one more thing ” card precisely once since taking over, and that was to announce Apple Watch last month. They did that deliberately, because it was too significant to invoke Steves iconic line over another speed bump or millimeter shaved off.
So the original article was off to refer to it “as always”, Until last month, we hadn’t heard it for four years or so.

  2. I say it’s been too long for a 12″ and 17″ Mac laptop, a refreshed Mac Mini and AppleTV.

I think Microsoft is going to announce the new Mac Office too as that seems to be too long as well. It may be a separate press release or if it’s big enough, maybe Satya will make a surprise appearance. It’s been years since a MS exec made it onto the stage.

  3. Well, let’s see… the multi-colored art harkens back to pre-iMac days. After the iMac debuted, the multi-colored logo ceased appearing on the AIO form factor, and disappeared from all Macs when the G4 PowerMac appeared.

If anything is true, “it’s been way too long” that an “i” has been hanging on the Mac name.

So… my hope is that the announcement refers to Apple releasing new AIO Macs and finally removing that idiotic “i” from the AIO Mac name.

But I’m not holding my breath.
