Apple’s MacBook Air with Retina display release coming ‘soon?’

“Following a forum post from a Chinese website, Digitimes is reporting that Apple will indeed ship a brand new MacBook Air with Retina display in the second half of this year,” Benjamin Mayo reports for 9to5Mac.

“The Digitimes article offers no specifics on what the new MacBook Air will feature, aside from the Retina display,” Mayo reports. “A forum poster (who has a track record of accuracy) from last week said that the new model of laptop would feature a fan-less design in an even thinner form factor than the current MacBook Airs’ enclosure.”

Mayo reports, “With multiple sources saying pretty much the same thing, all the signs indicate that a new Retina display Air is coming in the pipeline.”

  1. I believe this will happen as the Retina screens have been added the15″ MBP then to the 13″. The next logical step is extending this option to the MBA line. They may have held off because of battery or screen thickness concerns. I love my 13″ MBA but would love a higher resolution screen.

The fan less design – doubtful. Heat is the enemy. If this uses an Intel i processor I expect a fan will be required.

  2. Does Apple ever do anything in the first half of the year anymore? Imagine how much positive press and upward stock pressure Apple would see if only Cook did more than one thing a year.
