“Whenever Apple sends out media invites to its official events — such as for its iPhone 5 event — it likes to drop subtle hints as to what it has up its iSleeve,” Evan Niu writes for The Motley Fool.
The next “version of iOS is arguably one of Apple’s most important in years, as it will mark a dramatic shift for the platform that drives more than 70% of sales,” Niu writes. “iOS 7 will be the first version under design chief Jony Ive’s influence, following Scott Forstall’s ouster in October, and it’s set for an aesthetic overhaul.”
Niu writes, “The teaser is striking on a number of levels and much more interesting than in previous years. Even the font that Apple’s using here is a departure from its normal corporate typeface, and looks clean and modern (MMXIII is the roman numeral for 2013).”

yep
flat android like font and the alice in wonderland type colors of samsung
Those colors are the colors from the old rainbow Apple logo, asshat. Get a life.
not even close – far too vivid and rich of a spectrum
They are the 6 colors of Apple, but they are transparent so thet “make” more colors.
Correctimento. Add transparency.
It’s based on the old Apple logo. Love it … or leaf it.
I don’t get it. Android like font? How and why?
How is it android? And if it were, why would Apple then use it? Does not make any sense.
The new font looks kinda skinny like an anorexic reedy supermodel. The old font had a bit more heft to it. More weight. More gravitas. And looked better too, like a well proportioned hot chick.
I hope this isn’t an indicator that Apple will be releasing candy floss stick-like products in the future.
Already seeking the most negative possible interpretation, aren’t you BLN. You lead a sad life.
It’s what he does, and he’s brilliant at it,with his unfailing visualising of women in his analogies 🙂 thank God Minka Kelly doesn’t work for Samsung.
No, he’s not brilliant, just passable. Makes me long for the good old days of Zune Tang.
Zune Tang was proper satire, BLN is just a loudmouth.
Judging by the colors (RGB) and the background which appears to be an old tv, I’d guess their going to announce 3D TV.
So I wouldn’t read anything into it. The backgrounds are squares with rounded corners… the same shape as iOS apps.
But the blend is additive – they are interacting with each other. And they’re stacked and possibly rotating. This image is positively brimming with nuance.
one my think, many may not
– me, myself and irene
Nope. It is CMYK: the RGB comes from CMY combinations. But really, all those colors obviously represent a new multi-colored line of AppleTV’s. Collect ’em all!
CMYK is for print. RGB is for screens
App Store/SDK for Apple TV?
Bingo!
Or it could mean nothing.
But we KNOW it DOES represent something. It always does.
Steve did not raise no dummy company. 😉
@thethirdshoe – “we KNOW it DOES represent something. It always does.”
The WWDC graphic represents a new spiral interface for apps. The user’s finger twirls clockwise or counterclockwise to move ‘vertically’ through a series of apps … that first come into focus in the background and then work their way to the front … before disappearing and giving way to the next one.
Apple holds the patent on this interface, and it has been suggested that it could be used on the iWatch.
http://blogs.computerworld.com/ios/21800/apple-iwatch-patents-say-it-could-be
If you play it backwards, you’ll find out what it all means.
i know this will come as a shock
but the tiny little birdy told me personally,
this work was not Art Directed nor handled by Jony Ives.
You mean, this isn’t the new iOS font?!?!?!
Shockingly obvious, but not everyone seems to get that.
And Scott Forstall was only given the boot from Apple in October. If an iOS release is imminent, then it was likely fairly mature by that point. Jony Ive’s first opportunity to truly shape iOS will be iOS 8, not iOS 7.
The graphic is in the shape of an application icon and stacked in different rotational positions. Some kind of added twist of the wrist functionality? Different way of creating folders perhaps? Three dimensional folders?
Noticed that the colored shapes form a sort of abstract Apple logo. Nice nod!
You are smoking some good shlt. 😎
Evan is stretching guesses beyond belief based on 1 icon?
Taking a bit more rational design look, I don’t see it possible Ive could come in on November 1, 2012 and suddenly change directions and get a major shift designed in multiples, refined, decided upon & executed in less than 6 months … in Addition to all his other job responsibilities.
Journalistic featherbedding to keep the Editor in Chief happy.
That point is only valid if Ive and his team weren’t actively developing this before Scott Forstall was pushed aside. What if they’d internally unveiled a working alternative interface as proof of concept, and therefore started the boardroom battle in the first place?
squares with rounded corners.
=iOS app icons – major iOS update?
=Mac Mini shape – mac mini update?
=ipod nano screen – iWatch in several colors?
or all of the above?
thats one fart smeller
A purple Mac mini made out of Liquidmetal… 😀
Yeah! Where the hell is that Liquid Metal?
I’m thinking the new Mac Pro. It’s been in the same shape for over 10 years.
Start with that machine, then roll it out over the entire lineup. The computers will look incredible! (Sammy will not be able to copy that. )
no but SGI already did..
so wake up that fourth shoe and act like two pairs
They’ll hand out glow-sticks and Jujubes at the door
Col. Miles Quaritch: You’re not in Kansas, anymore. You’re on Pandora, ladies and gentlemen. Respect that fact, people. Every second of every day. If there is a hell, you might want to there for some R&R after a tour on Pandora. Out there beyond that fence every living thing that crawls, flies, or squats in the mud wants to kill you and eat your eyes out for jujubes.
after reading your comment, makes me think this is Apples new free radio app like Pandora
Don’t forget the hula hoops!
I’ve figured it out — ALL numbers in iOS VII will be depicted as roman numerals!
ugh – hope not
Looks like a watch to me!!! Icon is watch shaped and using roman numerals like a sun dial early watchs had roman numerals on them
Maybe they are finally going to bring back COLOR and get rid of this ugly grey-on-grey b.s.
Those could be visualisations of constrained molecular orbitals, a clue that Apple has been able to implement quantum teleportation, and plans to unveil the APIs at WWDC.
This could be it: The iPhone 5S in multiple colors, as has been rumored.
I liked how the email has the block of colors and WWDC, and then MMXIII slowly fades IN.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN??? 😎
“The wait is almost over” …
Mac Pro?
Back to basics?
See how the colors are the same as the old Apple multicolor logo?
Let’s wait and see.
“Let’s wait and see.”?? As if.
Why’s that?
Just being silly. 😀
The only thing we CAN do is wait.
the three eyed radio active simpson fish has left the building
what’s left is the third shoe without any laces
Lol alright then. =P
I see a 3D and a watch reference. Psyched. At least Something’s happening!
Smoking the same stuff as dimplemonkey… 😎
Have any extra?
If Apple goes flat and skinny fonts, they’ll be copying Microsoft’s Windows Phone.
Sorry, but it’s true. Should Microsoft sue Apple? It’s our look and feel Apple!
It’s a jiggling App icon!
maybe everybody gets a hit of acid with each new apple product…
It’s the iWatch in multi-colors…plain and simple.
eh.
Count me as unimpressed… excepting the font (which looks like a piece of one-off typography) the multi-hued graphic leaves me with a very Microsoftian feel.
