“Safari 6 brings improved performance and many new features to OS X, including offline reading lists, a unified search field and support for Do Not Track,” Frederic Lardinois reports for TechCrunch.
“What seems to be completely gone from Apple’s site now, though, is any mention of the Windows version of Safari,” Lardinois reports. “Indeed, it looks like Apple has removed all download links for Safari from its site for the time being.”
Lardinois reports, “This could be due to the fact that Apple is currently highlighting Safari’s new features in Mountain Lion (which pre-installs Safari 6), or because Apple has indeed ended development of Safari for Windows. Windows users can still download the old version from Apple, but the link is hidden on the company’s support page.”

Safari on Windows was intended to garner developers of web apps that worked on the iPhone and Mac OS.
It’s not particularly necessary, however I think it’s down momentarily until they can post v6.
Dude, there was a Windows version of Safari way before iOS app development began. Like iTunes it was meant to introduce Windows users to Apple software.
danilko1 said web apps, not iOS native apps. Windows Safari was announced at WWDC 2007, exactly the same day that Jobs announced that iPhone apps would be written as web apps.

That was one purpose of iTunes, but the primary reason was so that iPod was not only for OSX users.
Though, with regard to the former, I do enjoy the Jobs line on that: “it’s like giving a glass of ice water to someone in hell.”
New Safari S-U-C-K-S a giant weenie.
Crashes, can’t read RSS feeds anymore (reverts to Mail, even if Mail is set to read RSS in Safari), can’t select multiple search engines (using Gims add-in). And that’s after just 10 minutes of frustrating usage…
did the same thing to me re: RSS feeds… slop.
I will admit not reading RSS feed is a step down, but you can’t blame Apple for the Glims plugin not working. This is a brand new browser release… obviously the Glims developers need to release an update to be compatible.
DevonAgent Pro
in the Mac App store.
Multiple search engines and more.
Who cares about RSS? RSS sucks winnie!
And so do you.
RSS in Safari is how I keep up with MDN, and many other sites.
I use the MDN app… Push notifications still work.
MDN bailed on the app and ONLY those that go to the website saw that stupid poll… so of course the app lost in the “poll” (Great thinking there MDN…)
you could also use twitter to see the MDN stories.
I sure hope so, they should let it stagnate on its current version like MS did with IE on the Mac
Safari was actually used for RSS feeds? Wow. I’ve been using Google reader for a while (with Reeder as the client app), and have never touched RSS in Safari or Mail.
google reader. Blah
Google is evil, don’t you know?
Agreed. I use Google reader with Reeder as well (previously used NetNewsWire).
And while I dislike Google, I think Google reader is great.
It had the best implementation of RSS feeds I have seen. Simple and straightforward. It is a feature that should absolutely be linked to a browser. It is basically a way to see if there are any new articles on a webpage without going to that webpage every hour. The best part is that it would show you if there were any new articles right in the bookmark bar. Apple’s solution to use an external RSS reader is really lame. Apple has gotten into a bad habit lately of taking away very useful features and offering no replacement. RSS, MobileMe (no more keychain sync in iCloud, shared disk, etc.), Expose (to see all open windows – now they just overlap the same app’s windows so you can’t select them), etc. Why are they getting rid of useful features. These are actually major reasons why I have thought about not upgrading.
me either.
But then again I haven’t used rss in quite a while..
$5 says there will be a rss extension for safari released soon, just calm down.
Also many bugs in java. Suddenly when I open a game room in Pogo, I can no longer chat in the lounge unless I reload the lounge page which kills the game
Early adopters pay the early price before Apple can sort all this out. Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread. I appreciate the enthusiasm to get it ASAP though.
Safari for Windows is obsolete now.
Will not be updated further.
That is why it was removed from Apple’s site.
Not an oversight at all.
Want Safari? Get a Mac. Period.
I would guess that one of two things are happening:
1- Apple may be developing a version of iTunes based upon Windows internet APIs instead of webkit.
2- With iCloud, Apple may not feel iTunes for Windows is needed.
This has nothing to do with iTunes
“Early adopters pay the early price before Apple can sort all this out. Fools rush in where Angels fear to tread.”
Exactly why I’m waiting until early October before I upgrade. I have no stomach for third party apps not working as they did.
No RSS – Must use Mail or Google Reader (I could never get it to work – besides, I hate Google)
No album-view in bookmarks.
Tabs now fills the whole bar so you cannot double-click on the free area to open a new one, you must click on the small “+” on the right.
Many people having problems playing YouTube videos.
Apple’s Support Discussion area exploding with comments and complaints.
Apple has added tons of extra clicks just to do what took one click before – it’s soooo MS Windows!
Never knew about the double click the free area.. oh well.
I did notice you can right click and select New Tab on the bar though.
I also use a New tab button on the toolbar, the dynamic bar will take time to get used to.. Not sold on it yet. But I can deal with it.
Haven’t noticed any youtube problems yet. I run youtube 5 though.. maybe it’s with Flash crap? (which could be Apple OR Adobe..)
The Windows version would be correctly titled 6 Beta, which would highlight the taken-for-granted status of Apple users – as v6.0 = Beta, v6.2 = Release Candidate, v6.3 = Golden Master.
Anyone who wants a current version of Safari for Windows can grab it from WebKit.org. The nightly builds are still there, like they always have been.

Safari on Windows was horrible anyways… almost as bad as Internet Explorer itself!
Yep.
I have Safari and MS Internet Explorer on my POS, employer-supplied PC in my office. However, I only use MS Internet Explorer so I can experience the full realm of Microsoft’s brillant software for 8 hour a day.
Then I rush home to Mac at night and feel much better.
who uses safari on windows anymore? it really sucks hell. chrome is the best browser ever. I already deleted safari on my PC a long time ago.
Too bad if gone forever, that’s all I use in Bootcamp unless IE is required.
