“Last July, Apple discontinued the white MacBook from its consumer lineup, pushing consumers toward the company’s popular MacBook Air line or the 13-inch MacBook Pro,” Eric Slivka reports for MacRumors.
“The company didn’t kill off the MacBook entirely though, as it continued to offer it to educational institutions,” Slivka reports. “Apple has now notified resellers that it has ended that distribution channel as well, classifying the MacBook as ‘End of Life.'”

OH NO…. does that mean my poor 2007 MB will die??? End of Life??? LOL. Hey, I still have an iBook that is alive and kicking. Just got an airport card to up grade it with. I think those are dead too.
Weird world. 🙂
Not unexpected. The iPad had nearly killed the need for education portables already, give it another 12 months and nobody would be buying these at all.
iMacs and iPads for every school. Pretty good combination all in all 😎
In addition to what I actually do for a living, I’ve got a contract with a local school district to manage about 150 macs and their server. Of those, about 110 are the white MacBooks.
Looks like we’ll be transitioning the students’ machines over to 11-inch airs. Teachers all get 13-inch MBPs, but the price tag on those is a bit too steep for students.
I don’t see too many downsides to moving to the airs, other than perhaps hard drive size on the base model. The optical drive is rarely used on the MacBooks. Imaging via ethernet would be lost, but I’m sure there’s a workaround via the Thunderbolt port.
All in all, I’d say Apple stuck with this model longer than I expected them to.
My daughter still uses her MB that we bought refurbished in March 2006 from the Apple.
Those were hardy little computers. I owned a G4 unit and an early Core Duo model. No complaints except for the fact that the plastic around the trackpad absorbed odors and dirt very easily and the trim along the edge started to chip and peel.
So it goes…
Late 2006 MacBook still gettin r done!!!! The white MacBook and iBook before it are an icon. It put Apple out in front of people. As they started to pop up more and more in the Starbucks and getting Hollywood love as props in the tv shows and movies I knew it was a matter of time. Everything iThing is all the rage but Macs are on the march to rule the household and offices of this world! World domination!!!
