Google’s Schmidt: ‘Android is ahead of iOS already’

“Google chairman Eric Schmidt has come out all guns blazing (and pointing in Cupertino’s direction) in defence of Android, insisting at the Le Web expo in Paris that the mobile platform is the dominant player in the market,” Paul Lamkin reports for Pocket-lint. “‘Android is ahead of iOS already,’ he said. ‘In terms of unit volume, new ICS features, prices are lower, with more vendors, more pricepoints – do I need to continue the list?'”

“Schmidt also talked down Google+ as a direct rival to Facebook, instead insisting that the Big G’s social network was taking a different approach,” Lamkin reports. “‘Facebook has really moved the ball forward and it’s useful for any company to have competition. We saw an opportunity for something that has more privacy controls than Facebook does,’ he said.”

MacDailyNews Take: Android is ahead of iOS in everything except originality, consistency, marketing, voice recognition, voice control, artificial intelligence, quality apps, security, profit margin, ecosystem, breadth of content, and end-user experience. Google can have the rest.

  1. The thing is about narcissistic liars, is that they lie all the time. It’s to the point, that they have to lie, to keep up the impression that they have been telling the truth.

There is no credibility to these statements and henceforth to Schmidt. At one time he was credible, but now he is lost in a net of deceivery and a litany of make-believe.

  2. theyre ahead in unit volume because they’re devices either A) break/crash B) become obsolete after being out for 10months and not able to upgrade to current software updates apple only vends to the select few instead of whoring they’re devices out to anyone who waves a dollar bill, prices of plastic are cheap in china and does he dare even talk about stocks?

  3. Does any reasonably intelligent technically orientated person believe that kind of nonsense from Schmidt? Talk like that hurts the Android platform, and does not move any agenda forward. Innovation is what makes a company great…. compete on that basis and let the results make the point.

  4. If Eric wants to be number one in Volune and the least expensive in the cell phone market- well, kudos for the accomplishment in your quest. But, I have to buy the best product that is reliable and easy for me to use. Hence, Apple is the only phone I will buy now.. Eric S and Google can keep the coal. Maybe a few more years of Apple pressuring Google and they get heated about be second class, just maybe they create a cubic zirconia of Apple’s Diamonds.

  5. What year did he get his MBA? Had to recent!

I dont get why he is going apesh*t lately. By the metrics google and apple each define as “success” both platforms are meeting expectations.

Apple wanted a beautiful user experience and to redefine the phone. They did it.

Google wanted a generic platform on multitple handsets. They did it.

Maybe Eric dosen’t have enough to do at work to keep busy.

  6. Yes, Android is far, far ahead of iOS . . . In malware.

True, there are more handset manufacturers . . . But a lot of people make crap.

And yes, Android devices are on average cheaper than iPhones . . . When you factor in the BOGO offers to get the devices off the shelves.

I can buy a Bosch dishwasher or a Hotpoint. Both wash dishes. The difference is the Bosch actually gets them clean instead of just getting them wet like the Hotpoint.

  7. I think this guy secretly works for Samsung.

“prices are lower, with more vendors, more pricepoints” is what puts Android ahead of iOS ???? really Eric ? I would have thought it was quantity of units sold…. but I’m no business guru…… at least a few people think you are…. (where is that hospital for the insane anyways ?)

  8. Eric Schidt, symbol of true corporate scum culture. the bottom of the barrel.

    I thought I despised Bill Gates…

At least he the decency to keep hs mouth shut after stealing the Mac OS.

  9. Thank You Schmidt!!

I was wondering why android devices (wonderful as they are) don’t work properly:

that’s becasue Android is So Far AHEAD!!
They are even SO FAR AHEAD OF THE HARDWARE!!

once the UPDATES CATCHES UP — my devices are two versions behind as the manufacturers are a bit tardy in updating – and we can use those ‘so far ahead’ advances I’m sure my devices will work as advertised!!

so right now I’m satisfied with lag, random crashes and incompatible apps as I BELIEVE IN YOU SCHMIDT!! Sic it to them!!

    woo hoo! woo hoo!

  10. He’s sounding more and more like RIM’s Twin CEO’s talking about Playbook.

the more they splutter the more you know they are in trouble.

with Android making maybe a billion bucks a year (Gross) for Google (2.5b mobile revenues minus two thirds for iOS search) and spending 12 billion for Motorola plus hundreds of millions on R&D investors are asking hard questions…

  11. Eric T. Mole, while recently spending time digging new burrows found a cache of ‘shrooms and began to munch down. Since then he has been seen spouting off great stories of fantastical proportions. The long term effects of ‘shroom encounter are feared to have put him into a permanent state of delusion.

  12. “Android is ahead of iOS already”

Also, cockroaches are ahead of humans
    and
Windows is ahead of Mac OS X.

    Here’s the deal:
–> You get all the cockroaches, Windows boxes and Android wannabe thingies.
–> I get all the humans, Mac OS X computers and iOS devices.
    Happy now Mr. Mole?
    I sure am!
    😆
