“Google chairman Eric Schmidt has come out all guns blazing (and pointing in Cupertino’s direction) in defence of Android, insisting at the Le Web expo in Paris that the mobile platform is the dominant player in the market,” Paul Lamkin reports for Pocket-lint. “‘Android is ahead of iOS already,’ he said. ‘In terms of unit volume, new ICS features, prices are lower, with more vendors, more pricepoints – do I need to continue the list?'”
“Schmidt also talked down Google+ as a direct rival to Facebook, instead insisting that the Big G’s social network was taking a different approach,” Lamkin reports. “‘Facebook has really moved the ball forward and it’s useful for any company to have competition. We saw an opportunity for something that has more privacy controls than Facebook does,’ he said.”

MacDailyNews Take: Android is ahead of iOS in everything except originality, consistency, marketing, voice recognition, voice control, artificial intelligence, quality apps, security, profit margin, ecosystem, breadth of content, and end-user experience. Google can have the rest.
Fsck Google!
Oh I hate Google so!!
+ 1.01
Shoulda typed “+ π”
Not to mention profit and revenue….
And battery life.
Schmidt, don’t forget the thermonuclear weapon, Siri that Steve Jobs will deliver to sink your ship. And also the Terminator, Larry Ellison of Oracle has some big issues with you.
HA HA HA!!!!
May the Force be with you.
Eric, be a nice lad and take your valium as prescribed.
STFU Schmidt!
I guess Schmidt hasn’t asked Siri yet.
When someone self-boasts and bad mouth others, it typically means he is lacking self-confidence, low self-esteem. I guess Mr. Mole is afraid, and very afraid.
Liar, Thief, BACKSTABBER, Untrustworthy, Schister…… Eric T. Mole is lower than the whale schit @ the bottom of the ocean.
lower than snake shit in a wagon track in Death Valley.
Mr Mole has to use a ladder to get to the bottom.
Schmidt :” Oh shit, they understand English here?. Just kidding”.
“If you look at technology where one company comes to define one area, you’re usually better off doing something different that them. If you try and compete directly…you usually don’t win. You’re better off trying to define something new and offer a differentiator and that’s what we’re trying to do” according to Eric Schmidt.
Pity he did not learn from this insight when Google copied most of iOS in Android.
All that and ahead of FB on privacy too? Jeez! Can they be stopped?!?
Or more accurately, does this guy even know what the truth really is anymore?
Is it just me or has Schmidt been taking “talkin’ crap” lessons from Ballmer T McClown?
I guess it will come down to the companies who follow Microsoft’s lead (down the crapper) and those who don’t.
Schmidt inherited the right nut from Ballmer. Thusly, speaking like a Ballmer clone.
‘course he has to talk trash like that – he gets paid to make the company look good. It’s working wonders for him, Ballmy and Mr. Sillie Balls.
Now that SJ has passed away, He thinks he can attack Apple with impunity.
He’s a sick man.
10 gazillion downloads and 100 dollars in profit for the year. haha… yep that model works.
Is there any place in the android app stores that lists top sellers, top revenue generators, ratings, etc. I’ve never been to an Android “store”
Remember when you were warned about that certain part of town where people would slit your throat just to steal your running shoes?
Well, Android App Stores are a lot like that.
Ummm…I’m an affluent Mac user, I’m not even aware of parts of town like you describe. Really? For running shoes?
Schidmt provides a list of things, but does not connect the dots. His argument, even on its face, is not persuasive. The price of hardware on which it runs means that Android is “ahead” of iOS? Great. I had no idea that the cheaper also meant better in tech. Thanks, Eric. I didn’t realize such a variable, which is not related to the quality of the software, was a factor in quality of the software.
Yeah they lead the pack in viruses, malware, security holes and bad design too
First rule of marketing…
NEVER, NEVER ever mention or acknowledge the competition.
google is ahead in malware!
Eric is emitting his own Reality Distortion Field.
Apple does need someone to replace Steve as a headline grabber, to help elucidate Apple’s real advantages and have the media repeat them.
The media loves when one CEO disses another. Steve didn’t do it often, but when he did, he was sure it was a true advantage.
If you dis the opposition and you are wrong, it will bite you in the ass later (ie Michael Dell “sell the company” Balmer laughing at the iPhone).
But Apple does need to counter Eric’s headlines with some of their own. Steve knew that.
Don’t forget iOS is also waaaaay ahead of Android in developer support and users willing to pay for apps. Which go hand in hand, really…
Eric-the-mole is with the Dark Side.
Even for trash talk, this stuff is lame. Schmidt had to go to Paris to make schoolyard taunts? no class.
“We saw an opportunity for something that has more privacy controls than Facebook does”
and much much much much fewer users.
Someone needs to take Eric Fredo Schmidt “fishing”.
