The Black Knight replies by saying, “I’m invincible!” to which Arthur replies “You’re a loony!”
With an air of resignation, Arthur finally cuts off the left leg as well and sheathes his sword. The Black Knight, now reduced to a mere stump of a man, finally concedes by saying, “All right, we’ll call it a draw.”

Does Ballmer (or maybe the reporter) not understand what Steve Jobs meant by a “post-PC” era? It doesn’t mean that there will be NO PCs, nor does it mean that there will be an end to today’s primary PC OSs (and make no mistake, Windows is the dominant PC OS). It simply means that the big beige desktop is no longer going to be necessary as a primary device. In a world where the primary vehicle is an increasingly more efficient, compact car, there is still a big need for trucks (to use the Jobs metaphor). Steve Jobs did not envision a post PC era where Windows, Linux, Unix, OSX no longer had a place. I think the jury is still out whether Microsoft’s post PC OSs will be successful.
My G5 PowerMac is now a truck. I installed 2 TB of hard drive and maxed out the RAM. It is now primarily a file/database server and DVR.
What a brilliant special man. May he remain in charge of Microsoft.

Is it possible we will always have Windows? Absolutely. The question is will it be relevant to consumers. iOS 5 is cable free. We already know that iPads are replacing laptops, and possibly desktops. Now that a PC (or a Mac) is not required to use an iOS device, how many more Win PCs are going to become irrelevant? How many people who need casual Internet connectivity are going to choose a totally mobile solution and eschew a desktop entirely? The number is already higher thn many thought possible, and will likely go higher.
Let him remain Microsoft CEO for as long as it takes.

Windows is helping Apple in a powerful way. Windows created a HUGE pool of experience computer users. They all understand how to use a Mac, because Windows is functionally a less elegant copy of the Mac’s OS.
Every year, Apple turns a small fraction of that “90%” pool of existing Windows users into new Mac users. Apple’s PC competition can only trade existing customers back and forth, based on whoever has the lowest sale price that week. Apple maintains its existing Mac user base, and adds to it every year from the Windows user base. More than half of new Mac sales are to new Mac users.
So I say, may the current “Windows era” go on as long as possible, fueling record-breaking growth in Mac sales for as long as possible.

Its arrogance to say that it will always be a Windows era. Like any empire, nation, industry or product…it has a shelf life. The Romans knew it, the Egyptians knew it, and it’s evident in certain industries that those companies knew it too. That’s what spawns great monuments, enduring brands and legacies and most importantly innovation.
The problem is, Microsoft has a left a lackluster legacy for years and riding the coattails of a lack of serious competition. That’s why it’s now so easily for Apple and Google to decapitate the fractured company once Harold as ‘the only solution’ for computers.
Microsoft will continue to be less and less relevant.

IF you have 47 nano-seconds to spend on the Google machine, it doesn’t have to be right now because this kind of history rarely changes unless there’s blatant fraud involved, but go study how steep the rocket ride has been with the Microshaft STOCK PRICE over the last 5-10 years – basically FLAT – ZERO GROWTH – NADA – ZIP..
IF you’re a stockholder of Microshaft, and you still own the stock, you should do self-admission TODAY to the nearest mental facility. If you’re doing it because you believe Gates will come back and save you now that Jobs is gone – think about more drastic measures than a full-time mental facility.
