“No surprises here: one of the biggest selling points of Apple’s new iPhone 4S is Siri, the speech-recognition personal assistant that’s built into the device,” John Paczkowski reports for AllThingsD.
“It’s pushing competitor costs up, as rivals scramble to come up with equivalent voice command offerings — not a cheap or easy feat, considering the level of Siri’s applied artificial intelligence and speech comprehension,” Paczkowski reports. “And better than that, it’s creating a consumer bias towards the 4S, Apple’s newest iPhone and presumably the one with the highest margins.”
Paczkowski reports, “The reason for that? Siri’s voice recognition actually works — and pretty consistently, unlike competing solutions, which are often unreliable. And as of today, it’s still in beta. So it will certainly get better and more powerful over time. And it will continue to drive sales.”

It’s all over but the crying….no need to keep pursuing these patent infringements …. The biggest selling point can’t be duplicated, copied or otherwise achieved …. Done, finished, over…. Within a few years Siri will have made all other “smart” phones look positively ” stupid “…. Literally
Not so fast. There is an enormous “good enought” crowd out there. Just ask Microsoft, Dell, HP et al and any Android cell phone producer.
Innovate so fast the competitors are all driving around in Model As.
iPhone is the Ferrari.

I still think they should bring back the Siri app as “Siri lite”. Let people try the limited, non-integrated functions and then say, “Get the iPhone 4S to upgrade to the full version of Siri and take advantage all of its fully integrated functionality and voiceback.”
Playing around with the app during the last 1-2 weeks it was functional was what convinced me to upgrade from my iPhone 4. I’m sure that it would be a deal maker for those on the fence.
…Yet Siri working on almost all other iPhones too!…
Did you peaople hear about “IRIS”? a so called “Competition to SIRI”?
Since IRIS is that bad, they are claming that SIRI isn’t perfect too so this is a good competitor.
So the theory behind every fandroid user is that if you can’t make a good product, just give a bad review to the good ones.
Iris is interesting for what it is — pretty good voice recognition and semantic parsing attached to a web search client. But a Siri competitor it ain’t. Not even in the same ballpark.

Can’t stop laughing at all the delusional fan boys dancing on their own graves. IOS 5 is so far behind Android’s Ice Cream Sandwich that it’s no longer funny. What else will Apple copy from the competition and claim to invent? It’s really a sign of how Apple has become Microsoft and IBM when you see them scrounging around looking for things that aren’t patented, like the lockscreen slide that Microsoft invented, and then filing a patent and stealing it.
So much of the first iPhone OS was stolen from Palm and Microsoft Windows and they continue to steal from Android and yet have the balls to accuse Android of copying them. Look at what Apple has stolen from Android: multitasking, notification screen, active lockscreen voice command, cloud concept, holding and moving apps, etc. They’ve yet to latch onto widgets and multiple, customizable home screens. Still, none of what Apple has copied do they do as well as Android. The iPhone and its oversized clone the iKotex are jokes and Apple will continue to lose marketshare as it has with every product its cloned and stagnated. Tim Crook is nowhere near the con artist Jobs was and Apple’s demise will only accelerate now that PT Barnum, Jr. is gone.

seven of us are taking a break from editing and browsing sites, MDN is always fun for comments…and ran across this post…now the wager is, who would take time (of course this person may have too much time and not enough life) to go to an apple site and lay out what is wrong with apple products. survey results: a very frustrated guy, likely with no gf in sight and possibly doesn’t care; someone desperate for human interaction and this is the only way they can get it; a time waster who has serious self discipline issues; an old geezer in his underwear who loves to grump at kids in his neighborhood; a poor soul waiting for his court ordered group therapy session in “manage your life and get well.”
