“The funeral for Steve Jobs, Apple Inc.’s co-founder, is taking place Friday, according to a person familiar with the matter,” Ian Sherr and Geoffrey A. Fowler report for The Wall Street Journal.
“The funeral is characterized as a small private gathering, this person said. The person wouldn’t say where or when the event was taking place, citing respect for Mr. Jobs and his family’s privacy,” Sherr and Fowler report. “Apple has said there are no public services planned. In a letter to Apple’s employees on Wednesday, Apple Chief Executive Tim Cook said that the company is ‘planning a celebration of Steve’s extraordinary life’ for staff that will take place soon.”

I can’t believe he is gone. I never met him but was deeply touched by his energy. My days will have to find something else with which to find their drive.

Rest easy dear friend. Although I never met you, you inspired me in many ways. From your dealings though out life and even your dealings with death.
As was said in a Movie, “How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life”. He met this head on and with such a brave face!

I sincerely hope that eventually the location of his grave (that is IF there is a grave) will be disclosed and that we’ll be allowed to visit. Maybe Steve is being cremated? Anyone know??
I was wondering that myself if he was to be cremated. Knowing Steve he probably won’t have an official gravesite but will have his ashes just scattered instead. Even though he would be well deserving of a gravesite monument people could visit and share their grief.
It’s doubtful Bill Gates will get such an outpouring of love upon his demise and Ballmer people will only be too happ to plug that used car salesman into the ground with his thrown chairs and good riddance!

Your vision facilitated some truly wonderful accomplishments for me. My children literally have food on their table because I was able to monetize my gifts and talents through your wonderful inventions. I pray you rest. I’ve used a few different names on here and finally registered today with a permanent name. Just wanted to say that I don’t think you can find a better group of commenters (regulars) on the internet than here. This is the one place I’ve come to 3 or 4 times a day for the last 2 years. It sounds funny to say, but since Steve Jobs passed away coming here has helped me cope with it. Plus I enjoy the stories MDN chooses. More importantly I appreciate how they’ve handled the passing of Steve Jobs. For alot of us, this is where we’ve chosen to “come together” to mourn his passing and celebrate his life.
Thank you Steve for creating the tools I have used to produce music on for so many years. You will be sorely missed.

It would be really neat if Apple would put together something about Steve and post it on iTunes. I video memorial sort of Ken Burns style.
This is even more information than I wanted to know. I wish that guy had kept his mouth shut. Why give funeral-crashers any clue at all.
Unless… This could be deliberate misinformation. I heard rumors that the family of George Harrison successfully kept his funeral private by getting it out in the media that his ashes were going to be spread in the Ganges in India.
If that’s that case, then more power to this guy.
