“JP Morgan’s Mark Moskowitz this morning weighs in on the continued speculation over the nature of Apple’s (AAPL) next iPhone unveiling, and he concludes there will be two new models,” Tiernan Ray reports for Baroon’s.
“Attributing his conclusions simply to ‘our research,’ Moskowitz concludes there will be an ‘iPhone 5’ that will be a ‘world phone’ with both GSM and CDMA cellular support, but no support for 4G (‘Long Term Evolution’), and a ‘lighter, thinner form factor,'” Ray reports. “There will also be a revamp of the existing iPhone 4 with ‘some improvements,’ that might be aimed at a lower price, taking over from the ‘3GS’ model that has been Apple’s budget/bargain offering.”

“‘The implications of the fall launch are that the quarterly iPhone shipment levels stand to rise,’ he writes… There could be a couple of very meaningful [carrier] additions, including Sprint-Nextel (S) and the iPhone 4 ‘Plus’ for China,” Ray reports.

No 4G. Hmmm. I think I shall wait until iPhone 6 comes out in 2012-13 to move away from my iPhone4. All this upgrading gets expensive.
Oh, you’re just a FUDster.
I’ll be waiting for the iPhone 6.
My contract runs till next May, I can wait until October.
Or June 2013 if Apple has moved to a year and a half on big refreshes. That is the case this time anyway.
I will upgrade once it’s on sale in my country. I don’t need 4G.
If the so called iPhone 4S is to the iPhone 4 what the 3GS was to the 3G then the so called new iPhone 5 would actually be the iPhone 6. Unless I’m missing a version, the 3G wasn’t the 3rd Generation iPhone.
iPhone = 1st iPhone
iPhone 3G = 2nd iPhone
iPhone 3GS = 3rd iPhone
iPhone 4 = 4th iPhone
“iPhone 4S” = 5th iPhone
“iPhone 5” = 6th iPhone = iPhone 6
You’re right.
Apple management must be laughing their collective ass off at all these contradictory rumors. iPhone 5, no iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4+, pre-paid iPhone, free iPhone, one iPhone for everybody, Sprint doesn’t get the new iPhone, release date in early October, release date in late October, release date next year…
Who needs secrecy when there’s so many contradictory rumors that no one person could possibly keep track of them all. It makes you wonder if Apple is spreading some of the rumors themselves to add to the confusion.
