New Apple CEO Tim Cook’s note to employees: ‘Apple is not going to change; our best years lie ahead’

New Apple CEO Tim Cook today sent out the following memo to Apple employees, according to a source at Ars Technica:

Team:

I am looking forward to the amazing opportunity of serving as CEO of the most innovative company in the world. Joining Apple was the best decision I’ve ever made and it’s been the privilege of a lifetime to work for Apple and Steve for over 13 years. I share Steve’s optimism for Apple’s bright future.

Steve has been an incredible leader and mentor to me, as well as to the entire executive team and our amazing employees. We are really looking forward to Steve’s ongoing guidance and inspiration as our Chairman.

I want you to be confident that Apple is not going to change. I cherish and celebrate Apple’s unique principles and values. Steve built a company and culture that is unlike any other in the world and we are going to stay true to that—it is in our DNA. We are going to continue to make the best products in the world that delight our customers and make our employees incredibly proud of what they do.

I love Apple and I am looking forward to diving into my new role. All of the incredible support from the Board, the executive team and many of you has been inspiring. I am confident our best years lie ahead of us and that together we will continue to make Apple the magical place that it is.

Tim

  1. Go, Tim! I look forward to buying even more Apple products in the future and am certain you can deliver as well as Steve ever did. Oh, and thanks for what you have already done for Apple until now, if that is an example of what you can do, then Apple surely has a bright future under your leadership!

  2. Steve Jobs greatest legacy may not be the iPhone, the iPad, the Cupertino Mothership, or being bigger than Exxon, but the vision now embedded within the company along with the people in place capable of bringing it to reality. Long live Apple!

  3. Classy. I think Tim truly loves Apple and is entering the official role with the necessary humility. I have no fear of the typical CEO giant ego coming in and “making a splash” by soiling a beautiful thing with “his fingerprint”. He has my full confidence.

    1. Even though in June Jobs’ conditioned obviously worsened from that of March, if he did not become bedridden, there is still chance for Steven Jobs “special guest” appearance during September’s iPhone 5 event.

    2. Overall, Timothy looks like emotional opposite to Jobs. The latter is charismatic and passionate, and the former is “stone faced”. Cook will hardly handle keynotes alone as Steven did in 1990s (since 2000s Jobs always had guest speakers like Phillip Schiller and even Timothy Cook even before any health problems).

  4. I think Apple should celebrate Tim’s appointment and Steve’s well deserved ascension by offering the iPad at the same price as HP’s Tablet … I’ll take 3 thank you Mam..

    1. Couldn’t disagree more. Ives has been a huge part of Steve’s legendary vision, and Cook the biggest part of actually bringing that vision to reality. He’s humble but intense, quiet but exacting and potently effective in his expectations. Underestimate this man at your own risk.

    2. Steve Jobs isn’t a dork too ?
      It’s a computer company, it’s 100% full of dorks.

You’re using a computer idiot, which makes you a dork too. You also comment on blogs, which means you’re a massive dork but without any of the Apple employee benefits or pay. This also makes you a loser, and your handle makes you a coward. This all means the only thing you’ll ever CEO is jack shit. Maybe after a few years, you’ll be able to cash in some options for a peanut or some corn?

  5. Tim has been running the show now for some time… albeit with the training wheels on, well now the training wheels are off and I for one, having trusted and followed Steve since 1978, don’t see any reason to start doubting Steve’s judgement now… go gitem Timmy boy!

  6. Well, what did you think he would say? This is nonsense – the change (regrettably, not for the better) is underway. Tim will lead Apple Inc. like all the other good tech execs out there and Apple will become like all the other good tech companies out there. History will record Apple’s best days were the ones with Steve Jobs at the helm – followed by days that were not the best.

    1. You just don’t get it, do you? Apple has NEVER been just another tech company, with the exception of the whats his name days from Chrysler,, whatever… Tim has been culled, trained, and cloned in the Apple/SJ culture … it’s like the tech trinity … Apple-Steve-Tim, you seen one, you seen-em all.

    2. I find it hard to believe you have the ability to predict the future, since you’ve already ended up retarded. Did your Mom drink?

The change already happened, TC’s last stint holding the reins was very profitable for Apple and it’s shareholders. How profitable? Most profitable ever.

This time he’s been in charge since January. What, if anything, have YOU done since January? Stroke to Magna? Watch a Batman movie?

  7. Although I am not overly religious, this passage came to mind…

…for God had such love for the world that he gave his only Son, so that whoever has faith in him may not come to destruction but have eternal life.

…I have faith in you TIm.

  8. Apple will be fine for a while, but constant vigilance against self-aggrandizing corporate managers is necessary.

Cook states, “Apple is not going to change. I cherish and celebrate Apple’s unique principles and values. Steve built a company and culture that is unlike any other in the world and we are going to stay true to that—it is in our DNA. We are going to continue to make the best products in the world that delight our customers and make our employees incredibly proud of what they do.”

Bill Hewlett and Dave Packard would have said exactly the same thing about the little company that they grew from scratch. But one generation later, look how quickly mismanagement has undone that “DNA”. And of course we remember how close John Sculley came to killing Apple.

CEOs should be paid $1 per year!
