RUMOR: A piece of Apple’s iCloud likely soon; new iPods a possibility

“Working at an Apple retail store in the past, I felt compelled to share some thoughts on the rumors hinting of a major event coming this weekend at the Apple retail stores,” Mark Reschke writes for TGAAP.

“Taking in the smoke from the rumor mill, don’t get excited about Apple launching some form of anniversary Mac hardware, or delivering some surprise Apple HDTV product, that just isn’t happening. Apple does not waste hundreds of millions of dollars in free press when launching into new markets, and pulling some surprise Mac launch over the weekend would be doing exactly that,” Reschke writes. “What’s more likely is a software/cloud initiative.”

Reschke writes, “Based on the recording industry speculation, coupled with Amazon and Google’s music lockers, Apple rolling out their all-new iTunes music services for Mac OS X and iOS seems the best bet for this weekends event. Looking at Apple’s roadmap crystal ball, there is an outside chance Apple would bring new iPods to the stores.”

  1. Let me get this straight…

The most likely surprise event to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Apple’s PHYSICAL retail stores is to launch a cloud service?

I don’t know about you all, but I’m packing up the kids in the car, and bringing my video camera. I want us all to SEE the cloud at the PHYSICAL Apple Store.

  2. Yeah, I’m going with the iCloud speculation.. It’s the converging trend that seems most likely, especially with WWDC coming.. Unless..

    One more thing..

    Boom!

    1. It’s about damn time! I’ve been waiting for a 17″ PowerBook G5/pancake skillet for . . . Like . . . 8 years!!

      Bring it!

I’m going to need the oleophobic (sp?) coating though.

  3. How about a little reality for you MAC sheeple. MAC’s feeble and ultimately unsuccessful retail effort means all the formerly empty MAC stores are being converted to Microsoft Stores. Skype was just the start of a huge buying spree and MAC couldn’t wait to abandon ship. Finally beautiful Windows machines, Zunes and Office software will be presented worldwide to an adoring public. I knew this day was coming and I can’t wait to congregate with all the other Windows enthusiasts at all of these locations. Expect a big announcement from Redmond. Buh-bye MAC.

  4. Think about it, using iCloud you’ll need 3G atleast. Wifi won’t be enough to cover it. So you’ll end up with 3G capable iPods. There won’t be anymore iPods, there will be more iPhones… thats whats coming… atleast thats my guess…

  5. Doesn’t anyone else think it could be the iphone 4S. Wouldn’t that play into the rumor that it wasn’t coming out in June or July? And no press event would help to downplay the upgrade so people wouldn’t get buyers remorse about their new white verizon iphone 4s.

  6. As long as we are wishing. I’m wishing for a wifi iPhone. Or is it an iPod Touch with phone capabilities. Buying data plans for the kids adds up. Image for the almost 7 billion non iPhone owners if they could access iOS in a cell phone without a data plan.

  7. If there really is an Apple Store assistant manager named, Tony Perkins, this poster in most likely a disgruntled employee attempting to get ol’ Tony in hot water.
