According to the latest research from Strategy Analytics, Apple overtook Nokia to become the world’s largest handset vendor in revenue terms during Q1 2011. In revenue terms, Apple is now the world’s largest handset vendor, smartphone vendor and tablet vendor.
“We estimate Apple’s wholesale revenues for its iPhone handset division stood at US$11.9 billion in the first quarter of 2011. Apple overtook Nokia for the first time, which recorded a lower US$9.4 billion of wholesale handset revenues. With strong volumes and high wholesale prices, the PC vendor has successfully captured revenue leadership of the total handset market in less than four years,” Alex Spektor, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, said in the press release.
Neil Mawston, Director at Strategy Analytics, added, “In revenue terms, Apple is now the world’s largest handset vendor, smartphone vendor and tablet vendor. Apple’s proprietary ecosystem of hardware, software and services has proven wildly popular and hugely profitable. However, rivals are chasing hard, particularly the Android vendor community, whose global installed base of smartphones we estimate will exceed that of Apple’s by the end of 2011. Nokia is also investing heavily with Microsoft and Apple will be a key target for them next year.”

Many moons ago, Dell CEO Michael Dell told Steve Jobs he should shutdown Apple and gave money back to shareholder. I think Nokia shall follow Monsieur Dell’s advice to shutdown Nokia and give money back to shareholder. And Dell shall do the same thing a little later.

But… but, what revenue share does Android generate? So much for balanced reporting.

That’s a conservative estimate and without any other revenue.
Anssi lost his job at Nokia a long time ago. Clearly, his strategy, which he liked, was not working.
There’s his problem – he only “liked” his strategy. It only works if he “likes it, and likes it a lot.”
