Apple begins shipping new BTO MacBook Pros for Thursday delivery

“Apple overnight began shipping the first wave of customer orders for built-to-order versions of its new MacBook Pros, promising delivery by next Thursday,” AppleInsider reports.

MacDailyNews Take: MacDailyNews readers who’ve contacted us have confirmed the same shipping information for their new MacBook Pro orders.

In the particular order (15-inch, 256GB SSD drive, 8GB RAM) displayed by AppleInsider, “Apple promises delivery by Thursday the 3rd through its own order status system, while FedEx is a bit more ambitious, promising delivery by 10:30 am local time on Wednesday the 2nd for this particular order.”

  1. Ordered mine by phone early Thursday afternoon. 15″/2.2GHz/anti-glare display/512GB solid-state drive. The only shipping notice I’ve gotten was for the airline mag-safe charger. The told me to expect the MBP between March 2 and 8.

  2. Mine (17″ BTO.non-glare) is scheduled for March 2 delivery. With any luck it’ll be delivered while we’re at the Apple store picking up a new iPad2! Such a day, such a day it will be!

  3. Does anyone know if the low-end 15″ with AMD Radeon 6490m is at least on par with the previous MBP with Nvidia G-force 330m? I’m looking to get a new MBP and I don’t want to settle this time like I feel I did when I got my black Macbook (Late 2006). Yet $400 (Canadian) is a bit of jump to go to the next one up. Plus I want to add the anti-glare option as well. I’ve heard the the new Radeon is a bit weaker in some respects to the old Nvidia. Anyone have a take on this?

    1. The 6490 is about 15-20% faster than the 330m in everything except shaders, where its about 10% slower. So, if you’re planning to do gaming on this machine, you will probably have to shell out for a higher end MBP.

While I love the high end specs on the macbook pro, I feel like they should have included a 6750 in both 15″ models. :/

      1. Thanks for the feedback. … I don’t really plan on doing much gaming (if any). I just want to make sure that it will still run decently smooth in 3-4 years from now. I do want to get into some music and possibly movie making which may mean that I at some point will graduate to Logic Studio and maybe Final Cut (Express or Studio).
