“This is welcome: OS X 10.7 Lion adds support for the TRIM command,” John Brownlee reports for Cult of Mac.
“The addition of this deep little function will mostly be of interest to new MacBook Air owners, as it’s essential to the long-term performance of an SSD drive,” Brownlee reports.
TRIM allows “Lion to inform the SSD which blocks of data are no longer considered in use and can be wiped internally,” Brownlee reports. “It’s welcome news to MacBook Air owners, as even the latest versions of Snow Leopard don’t support TRIM, and therefore tax the SSD more than is necessary.”

MacDailyNews Take: You can order SSDs in new MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac Pro models, too, so this will be of interest to more Mac users than just us MacBook Air users.
Agreed. I have an SSD that I use for testing and repair of my systems. This would be a HUGE + and I would then consider using an SSD as my boot drive on the Mac Pro. 🙂 Sweet News 🙂
I think there’s an ointment for this.
This is why Apple is Apple, and it’s why Apple is better then the rest. For this little things they add to the OS X, they’re always many steps ahead.
Kudos to you Apple
I think Windows has had it for quite a while 😉
Yep, Apple is Apple because they add things that have been out for years and call it a feature.
Okay, it’s still a feature. Do you expect every single piece of OS X to be an innovation or something? Whether the technology is new or not, it’s still new to OS X, thus a new feature. Stop trolling.
Actually in this case they’re behind. Windows has supported it since 2009, Linux since 2010.

Windows has had TRIM support since, since, well since Lion was still a cub in Steve Jobs’ eye.
Yeah, a whole 2 years of support for SSDs in those industry-leading Windows tablets. It’s a little like saying it’s great that your car has a bilge pump.
Not so fast there, sister..

Since I have a 2.53Ghz i5 15″ MacBook Pro with an 250GB SSD, this would be a welcomed feature.
About time.
