Apple to construct most massive Retail Store yet in Grand Central Terminal

“Apple will be building a massive store in New York’s Grand Central Terminal, we have independently confirmed,” Leander Kahney reports for Cult of Mac.

“The store will open in the fall, likely early September — and it will be Apple’s largest retail space in the world,” Kahney reports. “The store already has a name: Apple Store, Grand Central, according to a source close the company. The source said Apple will be making an internal announcement within the next month or so. ‘The company will certainly pull out all the stops on this one,’ said the source, who asked not to be named.”

Kahney reports, “This year is the 10th anniversary of Apple retail, and Apple wants to make a big splash, our source said.”

  1. Oh, that is great news!!!
    I am soooo f’ing happy!!!!

As long as they don’t build one in the most populous state in the nation without an Apple Store, and home to yours truly, then it’s all good….no, really….I’m happy for them.

  2. I’d love to see a comparison story featuring the early nay-sayers blithering about how Apple is surely making the hugest mistake in corporate history by venturing into retail. there were sooooo many—even this life long Apple fan was nearly convinced. almost nearly 😉

  3. Every state or province of every country deserves to have a good Apple Store and a really excellent retail partner.

I’m looking forward to the Grand Central Store. Let’s see what “pull out all the stops” really means.

    1. OMG – it might be massive – not by replacing several connected dull fronts in the retail access hall areas – but a mighty Glass Pyramid in the CENTER of the Central’s high ceiling with a StarGate-like portal gleaming blue light into the huge space has a chance for being another NY icon – until we all leave through the portal… to escape global warming famine… including Glenn Beck.

  4. Almost half a million people walk through GCT every day. There are very few places in the US with that much pedestrian traffic.

Fifth Avenue store has so far been raking in the most amount of money per square metre (foot?) of retail space (twice as much as the second best on 5th Ave, Tiffany’s). It will be interesting to see if the new GCT store ends up displacing it from the top spot.

    1. Where are they putting it?
London’s store is 25,000 sqft. I commute into and from GCT every day and there is no place to put this thing. Almost all of the retail space is taken up in GCT so as much as it would be great to have an apple store on my commute it’s a dream.
