iOS 4.3 beta code strongly points to Apple TV support for App Store, online gaming

“New code in the iOS 4.3 beta 3 firmware hints that Apple TV may soon support online gaming,” Ross Miller reports for Engadget.

“Several references have been found pertaining to ‘ATVGames’ and ‘ATVThunder’ that point to a controller of some sort, leaderboards (think Game Center), a way to schedule games (multiplayer?), and a store front (think App Store, iTunes),” Miller reports.

Miller reports, “Apple TV’s minimum storage capacity (about 8GB) suggests the company might look to streaming not entirely unlike how OnLive works.”

  1. Can someone in Scott Forstall’s team unwrap his head from inside his arse and refocus from games on the iOS platform in order to get notifications right? For fuck’s sake even stodgy old HP can gets this via webOS.

    What in God’s name are they doing with those billions?

  2. OMG… My wife is already addicted to buying games for her iPad and iPod touch. She’d been a Nintendo and PlayStation gamer, but the convenience of downloading games from iTunes pushed the other platforms into the background.

    If she can start downloading games for our AppleTV, I’ll never get her out of the house! 🙂
