BGR: Verizon iPhone launch looks set for February 3rd

Digital Cameras at B&H Photo“BGR has confirmed with a source close to Apple that the company has blacked out employee vacation requests between February 3rd and February 6th — Thursday through Sunday,” Jonathan S. Geller reports for BGR.

“Back in June of last year, Apple picked the dates of 24th to the 27th for its iPhone 4 weekend launch — also a Thursday through Sunday,” Geller reports. “In addition, Verizon Wireless typically launches new devices on Thursdays. While BGR has not yet confirmed that the Verizon iPhone is the device we’ll see debut on the 3rd, the timing lines up very well with previous reports; no other Apple products have been rumored to be launching in this time frame.”

  1. Apple will launch the iPhone on Friday, as usual. Hopefully, there’ll be a keynote the week before, and an invitation to the event the week before that. So, right around the time of Apple’s earnings call, the 18th, I expect Apple to send out invites.

“Is 3 days enough for a major product launch? Seems kind of short.”

Apple has created a new paradigm, for any entity being able to create lines of thousands of people in not one but in thousands of distributed locations, for days over a product release (without giving away miley cirus tickets ” width=”19″ height=”19″ alt=”wink” style=”border:0;” /> would have been an unbelievable achievement, now it “seems kind of short”

It does seem asymmetrically applied though. Apple selling several million of (the original) AppleTV was said to be a failure, while amazon selling 1-2 million of the (original) Kindle ereader (over the same time period) was a stunning success. Curious that.

  3. I purchased the iPhone 3Gs during it’s first week of availability and my upgrade eligibility date is Feb 11. I would imagine there are millions (or hundreds of thousands) with the same upgrade eligibility date. This makes a February debut of a new iPhone 5 make a lot of sense!

  4. It wonder if there will be an update across vendors? It would make sense that the current 16GB iPhone 4 moves to replace the 3GS (being cleared out at $49) at $99 (and only available on AT&T), and the new iPhone 4G is available on both at current price points. A new phone for both AT&T and Verizon would be a competitor’s worst nightmare.

  5. My at&t contract is up and I could have cancelled the account a week ago. But I wanted to be part of the exodus so I’m waiting for the Verizon iPhone release to leave at&t.

I know, I know. It’s dumb and no one cares, especially at&t. But it’s just something that makes me grin. Hee hee. It’ll be like riding a landslide (in my mind). I can’t wait to make that call: 1-800-screw-att
