“Here’s a logical, and cool, marriage between your iPad and your TV, brokered by Comcast: The cable company says it will let subscribers stream live TV to their tablets later this year,” Peter Kafka reports for AllThingsD. “The catch here is that the capability… will only work inside subscribers’ homes.”
“Comcast will be demoing the feature later today at a Citigroup investors conference, but won’t be providing details about timing, or if there will be any programming restrictions on what you can watch on your tablet,” Kafka reports. “It’s possible there could be some holdouts, but the cable giant ought to be able to offer just about everything, since there’s no issue with carriage rights or ad loads, etc.–tablet watchers will be watching whatever’s already on live TV.”
Kafka reports, “The killer feature, of course, would be the ability to do this on-the-go, but we’re not there yet, and it may take awhile to get there. Mobile rights for video–especially live video–are a whole different ball game.”

Yay! Get to your 250GB monthly cap even faster now!
Pathetic…
@Eric
This is only available in the user’s home, so I assume that means that it’s only available over the same WiFi network. No cell data usage needed.
Although I’m sure that the cable providers will find some way to screw this up with high prices, limited services, annoying and unfair contracts, etc, this is nonetheless a smart move on their part. They were at risk for being marginalized by the content industry with the help of companies like Apple. With Airplay, all Apple really needed to do was sign on content makers, and the cable industry would have been rendered superfluous.
THE LIBS GIFT TO YOU IDIOTS IS THAT NOW YOU WILL PAY THROUGH THE NOSE FOR THE EXTRA BANDWIDTH, COMPLIMENTS OF HUSSEIN’S ‘FREE INTERNET’ BULLSHIT. LOL!
I’m a Comcast customer but this is not exciting, I already doe this using Sling. What happened to the Xfinity app streaming video, it was promised for December, still waiting.
The content availability is tied directly to your cable subscription. So you are out of luck if you have comcast for internet but do not have comcast for cable. This is just an attempt at keeping customers from canceling cable contracts and going to things like netflix, apple tv, and other streaming services. This does not replace the cable box subscription model.
Bye, bye $#&@’n Direct TV!
so (when airplay fully works) we could push the video from this app to our tv with the touch of a button?
HOW AWESOME! THANKS COMCAST!

I’m a Comcast customer as well, and can tell you their pricing is over the top high. I recently bought an AppleTV, then reconfigured my Comcast service (saving my about $100/month) replacing Comcast services with Netflix.
With the AppleTV I replaced what I lost (Comcast reconfigure) with much more (when I want it) without commercials.
I view this latest from Comcast as another way to get into my pocket, without providing anything beneficial. Not going to happen.
This much I can also do on a TimeWarner Cable PVR and a Slingbox Pro with a Slingplayer application. Any TWC PVR is available while I’m roaming about on my home WiFi and it works great. I’ve never tried using it over someone else’s WiFi over broadband but that certainly is supposed to work according to my Slingbox settings.
Besides, Comcast isn’t even available in my area.
@X
My only regret is that you were unable to use Comic Sans font for our all caps special. LOL! indeed.
@Seth
He meant data usage for cable modem – GBs, not MBs.
Not sure of the utility of this since when I’m in my house, I can watch on HD TVs. Typical comcast.
22 minutes of every hour on network TV is commercials, so Netflix (or other premium/pay service) gives you 58% more viewing in your TV watching. And 100% less mind-numbing ads for Cialis.
Of course, you might want to watch the local newscast for some reason (so you can see the 3 weather tease reports before the actual weather report). But as far as the Big Game or some other Must See, that’s why I have a 52″ TV.. Fourth down and inches just doesn’t do it for me on a 4″ screen.
Must laugh at Comcast bandwidth restrictions – BAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA. FIOS, baby, all the way. BAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA. Sorry, just had to do that again.
Xfinity – guess the X stands for 250 GB.
I cancelled my Comcast cable long time back and am happy with Netflix on Apple TV. For over the air broadcast, I have a $17 HD Antenna from monoprice.com which I hardly use. I pay $45 for my internet though.
@SETH
Comcast has a 250gb per month data cap. But I do everything I want to do on the net now, Netflix, usenet, torrents, etc… and never even approach it. That averages out to 8.3 gb a day everyday.
Eric The Red probably didn’t get near the 250gb cap either. He just wants to bitch about something.
What’s the point? If I’m at home, why wouldn’t I just use my cable TV setup? It’s already connected and ready to go. The only time I see this as useful is if I am traveling and want to watch a movie at my hotel. Which I do now by pre-loading movies on my iPad before I leave. This is a totally useless feature. To me.
I think most of you guys think that cable companies get the channels their customers watch for free. guess what Direct TV, Dish, TWC, Comcast, etc.. have to negotiate a price every year with the networks for those channels and are told what they are allowed to charge for said channels. As more people drop cable etc., those networks will raise the price to offset the loss. It is already happening.
So enjoy it while it lasts. The producers of content aren’t going to sit on their asses and loose revenue too long before they do something. It was like this back in the 80’s when you could buy a big dish to put in you yard and watch everything for free. We had free HBO, Playboy, American EXXXstacy, MTV. It was awesome but it didn’t last.
“Yay! Get to your 250GB monthly cap even faster now!”
I had 249 GB of traffic last month… Closest i have been to the cap.

I HATE comcrap, But its High speed cable, or dialup.. at least i get a better deal with Dish than comcrap for cable TV. and i dont have to pay extra for DVR
