“Very soon, maybe by Valentine’s Day, Apple will likely host one of its splashy product introductions to announce a new version of the iPhone that works on Verizon’s network… Apple’s introduction of an iPhone for use on Verizon’s network will come sometime after the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January, according to a person familiar with Apple’s plans who is not authorized to discuss them publicly,” Peter Burrows reports for Businessweek. “Customers are expected to stampede to the new pairing, leaving AT&T, until now the exclusive U.S. distributor of the iPhone, with an enormous problem.”
“Like most conventional wisdom, this expectation makes a certain amount of sense. Verizon enjoys a reputation for reliability,” Burrows reports. “AT&T is notorious for dropping calls, especially in densely populated places like New York and San Francisco where iPhones are most common and cell towers get overloaded.”
Burrows reports, “And yet, while AT&T has reason to worry about losing the lucrative iPhone arrangement it has enjoyed since Apple introduced the device in 2007, the damage may not be as severe as many anticipate.”

Woohooo
Round 1273655283009876225.028&1/2
Of verizon iPhone rumors.
They all say the same thing, just different dates. And all say that AT&T will go bankrupt the next day, etc…
Competition is good. It might make AT&T adjust their
data usage rules. For example, when I buy 2Gb for $25,
I don’t want a 30 day limit. Want to use it ’till 2Gb runs out,
irregardless of how long it takes and then buy another 2Gb.
No Verizon service here, and I just got a MicroCell, so….
I’ll believe it when I see it. But it would make for a nice Valentine’s Day present.
“Very soon, maybe by Valentine’s Day, Apple will likely host…”
very soon…
maybe.
will…
likely.
The fact that Businessweek is placing it by Valentine’s Day (Feb 14th) and with a “maybe” leads to believe iPhone on Verizon is not yet ready or prime for announcement.
OK.
I’m one of those that tends to believe there will not be an iPhone on Verizon.
Having said that, I could only think of two possible scenarios for its introduction:
1. Apple announces iPhone on Verizon in January 2011. Starts selling it by end of June 2011.
2. Apple announces iPhone on Verizon in April 2011. Starts selling it six months later.
If Apple and AT&T keep the five year contract in place before Apple launches iPhone with another carrier, that would be end of June 2011 or later.
Good luck to all those waiting for an iPhone on Verizon.
Hey Steve, Can we have the iPhone on T-Mobile Soon Puleeeeeeeze.
(Magenta Baby)
Sorry my bad.
End of June 2007 + 5 year, that would be end of June 2012 or later.
Only if they set themselves (Apple and AT&T) free after 4 years, that would be end of June 2011.
Bring it on! Let’s see how Verizon handles an overloaded network. Think some calls might start dropping? I had a business VZ phone years ago and knew exactly where I would drop calls on the freeway. I could actually give people advance warning and tell them I’d call them back. I’m perfectly happy with AT&T.
Wow! Really? Five years later? I am mean how in the world are the planning to win in the mobile space with just one provider???
And in the meantime, Android just crossed the 200K apps benchmark. It took them two months to double number of apps from 100K to 200K. Apple had a two year head start with the iPhone. I can’t believe they just giving this market away to Google. They should have been on Virizon, T-mobile and Sprint in 2008.
@dauvag369pils … irregardless?
Pick one word:
Irrespective
-or-
Regardless
The “Dumb Pipe” is smarter!
Apple: We rule the vermin!
The compelling reality that assures the partnership is happening, are the latest numbers showing just how badly Verizon need the iPhone. It will be completely on Jobs’ terms, and sooner, not later: in users’ hands before the end of the first quarter. Both companies benefit. AT&T will lose some users, but not be devastated.
People just put excessive emphasis on VZ’s CDMA iPhone and neglect to mention T-Mobile’s GSM iPhone & Sprint’s CDMA iPhone.
Assuming (1) VZ is indeed getting the CDMA iPhone and (2) agreement do not prohibit Apple to do deal with T-Mobile and Sprint, Apple can simply do a baseband update to “unlock” GSM’s 1900 MHz band for iPhone to use on T-Mobile network.
We all will have to wait and see when Apple will bring iPhone to multi-carriers in the US. BTW, Has anyone check any mysterious corporate event booking at Moscone Center or other location in San Francisco lately?

Valentines Day……… 2012

Oh PLEASE, it’s not real until Apple says it’s real. Another leak from “a person familiar with Apple’s plans who is not authorized to discuss them publicly” is just as reliable as the last one. However, the expectation is so high this time that Apple may be intentionally causing these recent “leaks” to keep this news in the tech headlines, until enough time has passed after the Holidays to make it “officially” real.
So the Mac App Store to kick things off, Verizon iPhone at some point in February (presumably), new iPad in March or April, new iPhone in June or July, new major iOS release, plus Mac OS X Lion, along with new Macs and iPods… Apple has quite an amazing 2011 planned, even without any “surprises” (and you know there will be one or two, at least).
Announce at Jan earnings call event in February …. Build up the press!
I’ll believe it when I see Steve on stage holding the Verizon iPhone in his hand. Main doubt is Verizon’s dictator like stance about putting logo on phone…adding V cast junk…controlling pricing. I just don’t buy it.
Wonders,
I’m one of those people who tend to believe the sky isn’t blue.
….Are you beginning to see how stupid you sound?
iPhone/iPod 4 – PC video calls now available thanks to Skype!! Yauuuuuuuuuu!!!!!!!!!!!
Im sure we will find out next month if verizons going to get the iPhone. Only saying this because if apple launches n CDMA version of iPad2. Im sure they will launch a verizon iPhone.
…or perhaps NEVER!
Verizon.
Getting the iPhone any day now since 2006.
If it wasn’t for that damn Obama we would have Verizon phone…..
Oops
iPhone on Verizon?. Vote Republican.
I’m torn. AT&T’s 3G speeds are WAY faster than Verizon’s but I had WAY fewer dropped calls with Verizon. However, many times when I can’t get signal another AT&T user near me can. Obviously an iPhone issue.
@Luke
The sky is not blue Luke.
It doesn’t make sense for Apple to release a version of the iPhone in the first quarter of 2011 for a different carrier(s) when they will be releasing a new version of the iPhone in the second quarter 2011. If Apple does release an iPhone for Verizon and hopefully T-Mobile during this period, a smart consumer would hold off switching carriers and purchasing the iPhone until the new model comes out.
This will ensure they get a latest model iPhone or at least they would also be able to pick up the older iPhone cheaper. Because of this I don’t see why Apple would release an iPhone for another carrier so late in the product cycle. Unless, they move up the product cycle and release the new iPhone in the second quarter of 2011that includes other carriers.
Ok, here is how I see it. The VZ iPhone will be released on Jan 14th not Feb 14th. The reasons are as listed below.
1. Every one gets paid on the 14th of Jan regaurdless of pay schedule.
2. The relase of iPhone 5 in June
is part of the plan for AT&T.
Most people want thenest device out at the time, so say 5% of the people that buy a VZ iPhone in
Jan decide to get a iPhone 5 in
June on AT&T.
Apple sells more devices. This also keeps the people interested in apple, the anal-lysts will provide free publicity to the public and that keeps peoples eyes on apple. This all is part of well constructed chess match. Ultimately Apple’s marketing team is controling the game and have had everybody in check mate for so long we couldn’t see it.
Peoplewant the beat device out at the time.
WOW! my typing skills on an IPOD touch realy suck.
Apple will be taking a risk in releasing an iPhone for other carriers in the first quarter of 2011 that may well go unsold as people wait a 2 to 3 months until the release of the new iPhone. Apple will take a bath on this.
Apple consumers are smart and fairly well on top of all things Apple, though there are always those that will jump in. And as I said, it will be a smart consumer that waits. Apple has always proven itself a smart company as well.
