“In the extremely high stakes competition in smart phone operating systems, Microsoft’s new Mobile OS appears to be a stone loser,” Greg Mills writes for Macsimum News. “This is for a number of indisputable reasons.”
“The expensive advertising program (rumored to be half a billion dollars) which will be launched soon, and the efforts of various hardware companies and cell phone carriers rallied to support Vista 7 are likely to be a doomed and completely wasted effort.,” Mills writes. “This will certainly end Microsoft’s presence in the mobile market, which includes both smart phones and slate computers.”
MacDailyNews Take: Or force them to buy RIM.
Mills writes, “Microsoft has failed to preform. Zune, Ken [sic], Vista and now Mobile Vista 7 have all failed to offer anything really new or compelling to excite consumers or investors in Microsoft products or stock. The issue is not as much what the new platform amounts to, but the poor timing and lack of compelling new features.”
“Had this new platform been launched shortly after iPhone took off, it would be different,” Mills writes. “Had this mobile OS been launched about the same time as Google’s Android OS, Vista 7 might have found a market. It is just too late for something that is not really compelling. Windows Mobile 6.5 is expected to remain the Microsoft platform for business smart phones while the new Vista 7 will be the consumer smartphone platform. Neither platform is compelling.”

A special ‘HELLO!’ to the anti-Apple trolls! Watch and learn little ones. Your efforts have all been for naught. We laugh at you.
With half a billion in advertising and hardware to put the OS on, they will likely have some numbers. I think it more likely that they will be the ‘just a phone’ OS. Nobody liking or caring, it just happens to be on the phone they got.

The big Shity
The big Shity
To paraphrase Steve J, “peter.s., I’ve got you in my sights”;
No –> “Microsoft will loose his hardware partners.”
Yes –> “Microsoft will lose his hardware partners. “
Unless you meant that Microsoft will set loose, set free, or unleash these hardware partners. Example; “Loose the dogs of war.”
(I will ignore the use of “his”.)
Really, people, is it that difficult?

When will the reviews come out? Only then will I consider this phone serious… or not.

It will be just one more mobile phone. MS has two huge problems.
1. The OEMs don’t care. They all either enamored with “free” Android or rolling their own mobile OS.
2. At $8 to $15 per license, WinMo7 will never bring in any kind of revenue. Think about it. Apple sells 10 million iPhones and brings in $6 Billion. MS sells 10 million WM7 phones and gets around $10 million.

Really? Posting an article from a guy who can’t spell Kin, and doesn’t know the OS is Windows Phone 7, with no Vista in the name? Losing some credibility here MDN.

I have owned 3 iPhones, the original, a 3G, and a 3GS. I have an iPad, a MacBookPro, and an iMac.
This article from Greg Mills is FUD. Such garbage is beneath a true Apple fan.
I watched the Windows Phone 7 Keynote yesterday. Although Microsoft has copied some important iOS ideas, they have added a number of very good new ideas as well. WP7 looks damn good, definitely better than Android and in some ways better than iOS.
Some examples:
WP 7’s camera app uses a dedicated hardware button that launches the camera directly from sleep and doubles as the shutter button;
The dedicated web search button integrates local device, web, maps search, plus it accepts voice input;
The dedicated back button – my girlfriend has an iPhone 4 and complains about iOS’ inconsistent back button implementation everyday;
The ability to put contacts on the home screen for one touch access;
The alphabet grid for quickly locating contacts by last name.
Apple should look at what MS has done very carefully and respond with similarly well integrated features or risk getting overtaken in the future.
Believe me, it pains me to write this comment, I AM NOT an MS fanboy. I’m a die hard Apple fan and I want to see Apple win.

With 9 phones out of the gate and mild positive reviews, there isn’t enough there to offer a breakthrough product – in my mind it seems that it will only add to the clutter.
The iPhones offer a simple, clear choice to the increasingly complex array of choices and inconsistent behavior even of those on the same platform.
A CDMA iPhone is going to be a very aggressive play which should double it’s share as it will steal sales from both RIM and the Android-based phones.
