“Analysts at Goldman Sachs Group said Monday Apple Inc. may roll out a thinner iPad with a built-in camera and mini-USB drive by June, later than some others have projected,” Cromwell Schubarth reports for The Silicon Valley / San Jose Business Journal.
“Sales of tablet computers from Apple and others could reach 16 million units this year and 35 million in 2011, Goldman Sachs projected,” Schubarth reports.
MacDailyNews Take: Yeah, right, “and others.” Puleeze. 15,999,996 iPads and four non-Apple tablets to the Ballmer household.
Schubarth reports, “Apple sold more than 3 million iPads in the 80 days after they were introduced in April, instantly becoming one of its best-selling products.”

analysts are always wrong. If they say June it will never come in June.

Know one knows how many iPads Apple can sell because Apple can’t make them fast enough. Apple hasn’t started selling in every country yet. Apple hasn’t put FaceTime on the iPad yet!!!!! Apple hasn’t put the FaceTime camera in the hole in the existing frame yet!!! Apple hasn’t released the Windows version of iChat with FaceTime yet. Apple is REALLY TAKING THEIR SWEET TIME ON THE SOFTWARE! HELLO Mr. Jobs. At least put FaceTime on the iChat in the Mac.

If there is nothing remotely comparable from the competition, this is possible.
However, I think Apple has a nice annual release schedule going…
March-April = iPad refresh and related news
June-July = iPhone refresh and related news
September = iPod, Apple TV, iTunes, and related news
New Macs with no particular timing (except maybe “Back to School”)
Apple can use the above schedule to maintain excitement and stay “in the news” throughout the year (not that Apple has any problems with getting media attention). Also, March-April and June-July are particularly useful because Apple can adjust the release (by one week) to the beginning or end of those respective quarters, depending on where Apple wants the surge of initial weekend revenue to fall.
If Apple delays new iPads to June, it takes attention away from the new iPhone release (or the new iPhone release takes attention away from the new iPad release). So it seems unlikely and a bad idea.

Well, how often does Apple update their MacBook and other computer products ?
Why does everyone assume the iPad will follow the iPod and iPhone annual update model ? Just because iPad is a giant iPod touch ? They may be smart to wait. A Facetime add-on kit for the current iPad would provide decent income to Apple and satisfy the need for Facetime hungry iPad users.
