Customers who visit AT&T’s website today and attempt to pre-order an Apple iPhone 4 are greeted with the message:
Pre-orders for iPhone temporarily suspended

MacDailyNews Take: As opposed to yesterday when iPhone pre-orders were incompetently suspended.
[Thanks to MacDailyNews Reader “David C.” for the heads up.]
While AT&T;is displaying the temp suspended message, Apple Store seems to be okay and will allow you to pre-order.
Just because people cant preorder I dont think thats gonna make a difference if they will buy it or not.. They obviously want the phone so bad that they are going to preorder it. And knowing that its such a hot item none of this at all should be surprising to anyone especially Apple fans.
I had no issues whatsoever – I walked into my local ATT store and 20 minutes later (10 minute wait in line) I had reserved my phone
I guess selling out is called Android stealing iPhone’s thunder!
I got through at 3:30am(pst) yesterday, no problem. My bud tried at 6:30, couldn’t get through. I tried for him, got through. Only hitch was the ATT check didn’t work but still got the reservation. When that check failed it put $699 for the phone. No big as they check when you purchase and the 299 will be the cost then. Main thing is getting a successful reservation and having the phone held for you. Now, getting to the mall at 2am. Fun.
I placed a pre-order on Apple’s website. Since i am a current at&t;iPhone customer about a year in, when will my new 2 year contract begin? Since i ordered it through Apple, do i still pay the 18 dollar upgrade fee?
@justme2… Oh, I see… Because some Apple fans choose to stand in line for an hour or two every couple of years to be one of the first to get the coolest new device, we don’t have lives? I have two words for you: Piss off!
I’m an Apple fan and I have a life, too… We all do, smartass. Somehow, some way, I’ll find a way to carve a whopping 30 minutes to an hour out of my busy day to go stand in the “reserved” line to pick up my shiny new 32GB iPhone 4.
Should have downloaded the Apple Store app – worked like a charm.
Loser.
I think it’s time for Apple to pay ATT s early termination fee!
Got mine at 12:34 EST after trying all day since 8:30. my ship date is the 24th, arrival on the 25-29th.
AT&T;got themselves into the catbird seat and have done little with it for 3 years. Soon, they’ll lose their shot, and that will frankly be sad, because they’re a better company – better policies and customer service- than Verizon or Sprint, and Verizon certainly needs someone to take them down a peg.
I guess based on MDN’s take not one iPhone 4 was pre-sold yesterday. No fools, millions were pre-sold yesterday and that’s what caused the problem. This is the first time Apple has pre-sold so many of any of it’s products. Why, because people trust Apple now and they are no longer waiting for it to come out before they give up their money. Everyone including myself wants it now. So just cut ATT some slack and enjoy the ride.
I was ticked because after trying all day, my order finally went through – for shipment on July 2nd, arrival July 6-8th.
I really would have liked to have my phone on launch day – but you know, I think I’ll live with getting it a bit later. There are worse problems to have. I’m just smiling, thinking about the reflection of this in Apple’s stock price.
I just realized how absolutely lucky I am of have been able to placed my order. I attempted two times before and I said, what the heck I will give it another try. I got in before ATT servers melted down.
I definitely had the issue of seeing another user’s info.
It was about 10am in the morning. I logged into the Premier (business) section, and whboltman or something like that was signed in.
I thought I was nuts, signed out, exited Safari, launched and went back the premier page, and his (or her) username was still filled in, but not signed in!
@NCIceman
@Not a crybaby: What part of the world says “Beeeee” instead of “Waaaah” for a crying sound?
Yeah, I wants to know too!
I got through on Apple’s site at about 4:20pm PDT and got a 32GB. I was thinking about holding out for a white one, but I think with the white front, the dirt that gets around the home button will be visible making an unsightly ring-around-the-collar effect. That’s my excuse for not waiting, anyway

I was able to reserve two iPhone 4s yesterday, one through the Apple Store app on my iPad (in one attempt, no less) and the other later in the day through apple.com, that took maybe five attempts or so. I guess I was just lucky, after reading many stories here at MDN and other sites.
@ecrabb: It was a joke directed at the folks who seem to be the ones in line and on the local TeeVee box whenever there’s a big Apple rollout; their cousins are the ones who camp out for the new video game releases, rock concert tickets, and midnight releases of Harry Potter. It’s been a sucky year, and I’m coping with a lot of Real Life crap…
@Rob
You’re right – no one should have been ordering the phones. You must work for AT&T;.
AT&T;takes a lot of the blame, but the Apple side was also bogged down (of my ~ 50 attempts yesterday, only about 5 got held up on the Apple site). They made a mistake in drastically underestimating the traffic. To blame the consumers for trying to actually purchase the product is just plain silly.
I must confess I will be getting mine on the 24th, but it is a bit strange that so many people’s lives seem to have been totally destroyed yesterday because they had trouble ordering a phone, or might have to wait two whole extra weeks for it to arrive. What a nation of impatient spoiled brats we’ve turned into.
I tried all day.
Three different computers, three different versions of browsers.
iPhone with the Safari browser AND the new App Store App.
iPad both ways too. NOTHING worked.
Finally got through using the ATT web site,
– only to have my Apple credit card through Juniper flag it as fraudulent! F’in idiots.
ATT killed the order this morning, so I am back to square one.
Gee. Tuff crowd today. Although I did experience same issues early in the day, I did manage to place an order via iPhone 3GS. I’ll have the iPhone 4 on 6/24,
My complaint is NOt about the number of iPhones available, but rather the inability of AT&T;to handle the ordering demands. I mean, seriously, if their computer systems cannot handle the demand of a couple million day one adopters, why trust them to handle the day to day use of tens of millions of day to day users?
